Been here before and the food is normally good. Sorry but they had a bad day today. Warmish and not much flavour all round. In fairness they didnt charge for the desserts but that was after two goes at it. I do have to say though is that the staff were brilliant... shame the chef wasnt on the pace today

We had not eaten here for a while and after reading reviews on trip advisor I was worried that it would not match my expectation of the excellent food and service we have enjoyed before. I need not have worried, it was fabulous. Great food, massive portions though, charismatic and helpful staff. The restaurant is beautiful, mix of old pub with contemporary barn. It was a family meal for mothers day and we left the restaurant raving about it!

Ok the service was a little more stressed than usual but when they were so frantic it is not surprising. Seven of us seated on a big round table arrived at 10 am. I ate a great chef cooked Full English breakfast . It was a good sized portion and tasted fresh and was piping hot. The atmosphere was good with a real buz.

Been here a number of times before and it's been wonderful. But haven't been there for a least a year, and standards have dropped. shown to our table by a pretty grumpy chap, just threw the menus on the table and wandered off. Waitress was fine, bought our drinks took our orders no problems.

Starters: pretty shocking start. I had the Epanadillas, which were flat with soggy pastry, they looked very sorry for themselves. Another of our party had the muscles, which hadn't been cooked properly, half had to be prized open, the other half there was no chance, the tomato sauce it came in was stone cold. The other members of our party had the bruschetta, can't really go wrong, but they still managed to go overboard with the tomatoes? job lot?

Main: We had a word with the waitress she apologised and assured us that the main course would make up for it...well it didn't. Across our party, we all had different dishes, and the best was the Burger. The plaice was bland. One had a rump steak, bit dry, forget to bring the extra sauce ordered. The pork belly was ok, no apple purée on the plate as stated,, far too much mash to warrant it. The pasta was fairly simple, probably could've been done anywhere. Not great.

Desert: again apologies made....the deserts looked quite standard, pre made. Except for the apple crumble, which took a bit longer, was told this so not a problem. all ok really, pretty standard. the coffees were stone cold? it's coffee & hot water/milk, how can you get that wrong?

All in all, it's disappointing, used to really like & recommend the Red Lion, not sure what's gone wrong. It used to be somewhere a bit special, now it's just standard...better places further up the road.

We used to visit The Red Lion at least once a week as the food, service and atmosphere were really great. However, everything seemed to become really tired and our visits became less frequent. Our last visit, the food was flavourless, my partner left his whole meal as it was inedible and the restaurant was full of flies. I discretely discussed this matter with the Manager as I didn't want to put anyone else off their meals.
