“Wonderful Mother's Day breakfast”
Reviewed March 10, 2013 via mobile

Ok the service was a little more stressed than usual but when they were so frantic it is not surprising. Seven of us seated on a big round table arrived at 10 am. I ate a great chef cooked Full English breakfast . It was a good sized portion and tasted fresh and was piping hot. The atmosphere was good with a real buz.

“It's gone downhill, rapidly”
Reviewed March 1, 2013

Been here a number of times before and it's been wonderful. But haven't been there for a least a year, and standards have dropped. shown to our table by a pretty grumpy chap, just threw the menus on the table and wandered off. Waitress was fine, bought our drinks took our orders no problems.

Starters: pretty shocking start. I had the Epanadillas, which were flat with soggy pastry, they looked very sorry for themselves. Another of our party had the muscles, which hadn't been cooked properly, half had to be prized open, the other half there was no chance, the tomato sauce it came in was stone cold. The other members of our party had the bruschetta, can't really go wrong, but they still managed to go overboard with the tomatoes? job lot?

Main: We had a word with the waitress she apologised and assured us that the main course would make up for it...well it didn't. Across our party, we all had different dishes, and the best was the Burger. The plaice was bland. One had a rump steak, bit dry, forget to bring the extra sauce ordered. The pork belly was ok, no apple purée on the plate as stated,, far too much mash to warrant it. The pasta was fairly simple, probably could've been done anywhere. Not great.

Desert: again apologies made....the deserts looked quite standard, pre made. Except for the apple crumble, which took a bit longer, was told this so not a problem. all ok really, pretty standard. the coffees were stone cold? it's coffee & hot water/milk, how can you get that wrong?

All in all, it's disappointing, used to really like & recommend the Red Lion, not sure what's gone wrong. It used to be somewhere a bit special, now it's just standard...better places further up the road.

“Oh Dear!!!”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

We used to visit The Red Lion at least once a week as the food, service and atmosphere were really great. However, everything seemed to become really tired and our visits became less frequent. Our last visit, the food was flavourless, my partner left his whole meal as it was inedible and the restaurant was full of flies. I discretely discussed this matter with the Manager as I didn't want to put anyone else off their meals.

“in a class of its own”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

having seen the transformation of this establishment, and the effort gone into getting things just right, i think its safe to say they have done it proud.
The moment you walk in, you get a warm atmosphere, and a sense of something just a bit special.
Take note, its advisable to book as they get very busy!
We did , and were greeted very enthusiastically by the duty manager who showed us to our table.

Now i happen to be quite particular about my food, in so much as i like italian food in an italian restraunt, indian in an indian etc. etc. But i went out on a limb and ordered a pasta dish in a pub!
I expected a standard dish that you could find anywhere, but what i in fact got was a dish so tasty, it left me wanting to go back the next day for more.(i didn't, i had to hold back a little!) It was like nothing i have ever tasted before. I know what i am eating next time!
The service was very fast from the time our order was taken, to the time we recieved the meals, and you could not have asked for more friendly staff.
The presentation was superb, the decor of the establishment was lovely, and i noticed they welcomed children, which is nice to see.
Two desserts arrived, hot and tasty, again, quick service, and we were left after that to digest and enjoy the atmosphere once more.
Parking is ample it this establishment, and i cannot recommend it highly enough.
If you are looking for a restraunt with that little bit extra, this place has it in spades.
Perhaps some food that is a bit different, or maybe a family get together? try the red Lion
Its nice to note they have recently one some prestigious awards, and it is well deserved in my book. I hope they win many more. Congrats to the whole team at the red lion. hope to see you all soon!
