The hotel is characterful, with old artwork on the wall, most of the original features still intact, including frescos on the outside, beautiful chandeliers, old artwork inside. Could be really special with a little investment - small touches like cleaning the chandeliers (whilst an expensive activity) would make such a difference.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
Food in the restaurant was average. Most of it was luke-warm when delivered to the table. Poor selection of lagers in the bar (only Stells 4% and Carlsberg), but a good selection of spirits.
Whilst comfortable, the rooms are in desperate need of a little TLC. Some aspects are understandable given the age of the building (such as creaky floorboards), but black mould in the bathroom is not acceptable.
The grounds are beautiful, and I would have liked to have had a little more time to appreciate them.
A good value stay in a hotel full of character.More
