Owner description: Hatfield House is the home of the 7th Marquess and Marchioness of Salisbury and their family. The Estate has been in the Cecil family for 400 years. Superb examples of Jacobean craftsmanship can be seen throughout the House. Hatfield House is open from Easter Saturday to 30th September each year.

“Stable Yard - interesting and differen”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 23, 2013

I am just commenting on Stable Yard, not the main Hatfield House or grounds. Since a friend introduced me to Stable Yard a few months ago, I have been back a couple of times. I really like the atmosphere of Stable Yard with its slightly quirky shops - a nice place to look for something a bit unusual as a gift. Another visit coincided with an antique and collectors fayre. That was fun! and a nice way to pass a couple of hours.
My biggest issue is the Stable Yard cafe. I have used it three times now. The coffee is truly dreadful - worst I have ever tasted, like watered down milk. They don't use a proper coffee maker. I gave it a go again last week in the hope that it had improved but really wished I hadn't as I felt sick afterwards. Am not asking for much, just something like a regular high street coffee shop coffee. There were a few sandwiches on offer but no list of what was in them. This cafe has such a nice location it is a real shame they don't raise their game just a bit. Others have commented that it is expensive - they're right, but they are broadly in line with other stately home prices. However if they are going to charge more they need to offer better than the ghastly coffee currently on offer. If it wasn't for this I would have rated Stable Yard much better.

“Wedding Fair lovely grounds”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 27, 2013

Twice I have been to a wedding fair at Hatfield House.
Plentiful parking and helpful staff.

Would love to explore on a normal day, may need wellies though!

“Masses to see”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 26, 2013

Masses to see. Staff in the palace are friendly and knowledgeable. You can go to the shops and cafe area (and loos) without paying an entrance fee (other venues please take note). I have also been several times to 'Folk by the Oak' - one of the best concerts on the folk circuit and very reasonably priced with excellent fireworks at the end. Similarly the 'Living Crafts' exhibition is well worth attending.

“Lots of history”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

Great place to spend a day, the farm is great for the kids, with a great play area called Bloody Hollow with a minature replica of Hatfield House.
Great for walking the hounds, you can get lost so easily the park is that big! We have been to the Battle Proms, the summer shows, and best of all we saw Sir Elton John.
Well worth a visit, amazing house and grounds heaped in British history.

“Don't Take Your Dog”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2013

The staff take no care when driving around the estate, a lot of local residents walk their dogs over the fields but unfortunately the staff make no consideration for this. My year old pup came within seconds of her young life when the 'Director Of Operations' carried on driving even though he could see the pup was running around, we were trying to get hold of her and he was being shouted at to stop! If they want to allow dogs on the estate they need to 'train' their staff in etiquette, how to drive and the speed in which to drive!
