Bowens Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #1 of 2 Fownhope B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed September 25, 2012

Our stay at The Bowens last Friday was all too brief but its flexibility was the main reason we stayed there at all; other local B&Bs wouldn't put us up for only one night at weekends. This turned out to be fortunate for us. Fownhope was a great place to stay and the friendly welcome and well equipped, large sized annex rooms at our destination were what we needed. There was even food provided (free) to one of our number who arrived too late and too tired to make it 100 yds further to the nearest pub.
The proprietors are relatively new to the business but clearly have the attitude and energy to succeed in it. If they maintain this momentum none of their guests are likely to leave feeling disappointed.

What a great review; thank you! We're so glad your walking party found our accomodation suited all your needs and it really wasn't any trouble making a sandwich for your exhausted friend. We couldn't have him going to bed on an empty stomach! Please come again if you're walking in the Wye Valley in the future,

On a Canoeing Trip recently down the River Wye in Herefordshire, we styed one night at this great B&B in the lovely village of Fownhope. The twin room we shared in the annexe to the rear of the property was very clean, well maintained spacious and had good comfortable beds . The adjoining bathroom was also a very good size and well looked after. Breakfast the following morning was great, and our hosts very friendly and helpful. The only downside to our visit to Fownhope had been walking up from the river along the busy A road where there are no footpaths, our hosts very kindly gave us (and our canoeing gear) a lift back down to the river after breakfast the following day. Excellent stay, thank you to you both!

Thank you for your great review; we're glad you enjoyed your stay here with us. Local businesses are lobbying for a footpath from the campsite into the village to make walking less dangerous; maybe if you come to Fownhope again it'll be in place! If not, we are happy to pick you up and drop you back there.

As a fisherman I was simply looking for a place to wash, clean up, overnight sleep and have breakfast. This B&B had everything I was looking for, comfortable room, spotlessly clean, easy parking, lovely made to order breakfast, friendly welcome. I had a courtyard room which was ideal for me. If you were looking for a more traditional the B&B the main house was full of character and charm with large well kept gardens, would have no hesitation to return. Ideally situated within easy reach of many of the Wye river fishing locations.

Room Tip: If you are looking for a place to sleep go for the courtyard, very comfortable and functional but if...

A top quality place to stay, very clean ,comfortable, peaceful with a superb breakfast and would recommend it without hesitation and will definitely stay again, for longer next time.
It is within easy walking distance (2 mins) from "The Green Man "which serves really top quality meals, but book a table on weekends to avoid disapointment. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay

Myself my wife, son & granddaugther stayed at Bowens for two nights. My son & myself stayed in the courtyard-my wife & granddaughter in the main house. The courtyard accomodation is basic but I gather this is used by fishermen-us.
The main house room that the ladies stayed in was really nice & they were very pleased with it.
The breakfast is really tasty, and you can take it early ,as us fishermen did.
The owners are really nice people and we were made more than welcome.
The Green Man just down the road is a lovely place to eat, if a little expensive-but worth the
money.
Overall we were very happy with our stay, and would thoroughly recommend it to others.

Room Tip: Lovely views from the attic rooms.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay here; we are pleased to hear that you had an enjoyable time. The room you stayed in, located in the courtyard is our cheapest room and does tend to be popular with fishermen. Your wife and grand daughter were were given an upgrade to our most expensive room for the same price as that was the only room we had left. We are very glad they enjoyed that room (it's our favourite too) and would recommend it to others. We hope you'll come and stay again.

I stumbled across Fownhope and this excellent B&B on a website quite by accident, but I am so glad I stayed! The village and surrouding areas are beautiful and relaxing, and nothing was too much trouble for the proprietors of the Bowens B&B. My suite was clean and very comfortable, and breakfast was superb. Do not worry, if like me, you had never heard of Fownhope before and just wanted to break a longer trip! Book a night or two at this B&B. I am sure you will not be disappointed.
