Description: Aymestreys The Riverside Inn and Restaurant is nestled in the Herefordshire countryside, where the Roman Watling Street crosses the meandering River Lugg. Amongst trees where butterflies flutter and dragonflies buzz, The Riverside Inn is an old black and white timbered building full of original features - oak beams, log fires, exposed stone - dating back more than three hundred years. Warm and full of character, this is a typically British inn with an excellent line in local ales, countryside perries and ciders as well as a number of European and New World wines selected as accompaniments to the fine dining food produced by the kitchens award winning chefs. Committed to supporting local producers and suppliers from the rich larder of the surrounding counties, The Riverside Restaurant is proud to be local - even hyper-local in some cases with herbs and vegetables often taken from the inns very own garden - and as such dishes are created to showcase the best seasonal ingredients. Every item is freshly cooked just meters from your table and every taste and requirement is catered for with excellent vegetarian options as well as good choices for coeliacs and non-dairy eaters.

“Excellent Saturday Night Dining Experience”
Reviewed August 27, 2012

We were staying in Shobdon with friends and were recommended to try this restaurant - we were not disappointed. We reserved a table for 8:30pm but arrived at 7:55pm (due to availability of local taxi). We were greeted by very friendly staff, upon arrival and despite being more than half an hour early we were offered our table. We decided to take a drink outside for 20 mins and enjoyed the excellent setting on the banks of the river. The service was first class, the quality of the food was outstanding and it was excellent value for money. We will definitely be going back.

“Eat and stay. Perfect combination!”
Reviewed August 15, 2012 via mobile

Booked here having gone to the Royal Welsh show. Really glad we did. Room was quite large if a bit quirky. Hand basin in bedroom but bathroom had been recently renovated. Booked evening meal as well. Heard the staff later on the phone saying they had only one table left!! Reason is you get your table for the evening. Food was first class as was the service. All foods are sourced locally - and it shows. I had the best scrambled eggs I have ever tasted anywhere on my travels here and abroad!! And with locally smoked salmon. Am looking for another reason to visit - trouble is I live 100 miles away!!

“Mmm...not sure”
Reviewed August 5, 2012

Tried the Riverside after being a regular at The Stagg, Titley.Following our visit to the Riverside The Stagg wins hands down for us all.
I'm comparing it with The Stagg as the prices are similar but sadly the following negative aspects were found: waitresses friendly but overworked; starter plates took ages to be taken away; unused starter cutlery was not taken away; insufficient time between courses so service felt rushed; cutlery was dirty; waitress asked if we were enjoying our food seconds after it had been put down; duck was lovely and tender but does not have the depth of flavour we are used to; fillet steak was rare enough but tough; radio was on for evening service which was both inappropriate and noisy; bread rolls and the bread served with the pate was awful (crumbly texture as if it had been frozen and part-naked).
On the plus side would be great for a lazy lunch outside by the river but they need to up their game if they are to justify the prices they charge for evening service.

“Very accommodating, relaxing lunch”
Reviewed July 29, 2012

We visited the Riverside Inn with 3 young babies and 3 large prams plus baby "equipment" in tow. The staff were extremely accommodating and quickly moved some tables to help us.

The food was good and arrived quickly and as ordered. Good value. Mrs Kalina's dairy intolerance was easily dealt with. We liked all the boards around the pub detailing the provenance of many of the ingredients. We would have liked to return for an evening meal but didn't have the opportunity, this would have given a better opportunity to see if the food was consistently good. The onion rings were a bit too greasy for Mrs Kalina's liking, but there were no other complaints.

We sat by the river after lunch which was very peaceful.
