The pub is near to local attractions such as Beaulieu motor museum, Lepe beach and Exbury gardens. Great for family, the beer garden and childrens play area offers a great resting point for days out.

“Dog lovers pub”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 28, 2013

I take my dog to the pub all the time and all the owners ask is to keep it on a lead. They provide dog water bowls and biscuits too. Great beer, great food, great staff.

“Excellent Sunday Lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2013

We enjoyed a lovely roast dinner at the Royal Oak near Beaulieu last Sunday 24th. The food was excellent and the chef and staff helpful and obliging, a lovely warm log burner was on and all was well. Then as normal another member of the public spoils the day.
In walked the previous reviewer (Trip Advisor – Kate H presumably) with their dog. They asked the bar staff if dogs were allowed inside? The answer was welcoming and clear ‘yes very welcome if KEPT ON A LEAD’.
This must have been the stumbling-block. They must have misunderstood what ‘IF KEPT ON A LEAD’ meant.
Within minutes their black Labrador was wandering alone around the establishment without any observation from its owners. This in turn caused another small dog nearby (who had until that time been very quiet) to start barking at the roaming Labrador.
The owners were then approached by the bar staff and politely asked (more than once) to put the Labrador back on its lead.
In a ‘huff’ the owners finally got the hint, and rather than put the dog back on its lead, they ejected it to roam on its own without observation, in the pub garden (presumably to foul the children’s play area).
I didn’t notice any ‘hill billy’s’ but to the very tolerant and polite staff of the Royal Oak, thank you for a lovely lunch.
To the previous reviewer, I suggest you get a grasp of the English language and learn what ‘IF KEPT ON A LEAD’ means, and return to Dale Farm from where you were probably ejected in 2011.

“Very Friendly Staff & Excellent Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2012

We have visited the Royal Oak several times over the last few weeks. The staff were very polite and we had great conversations with them. The food is great with a fab selection from Ham Egg & chips, Fahjitas, Salmon & Crayfish salad served with a freshly baked warm baguette. There is stroganoff, chilli, curries and the quality is excellent.
We took our dog into the pub, with no issues at all, infact they welcome well behaved dogs with open arms !! It is a lovely country pub well worth a visit

“Bit dire really”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2012

Went here for a change, pulled up in the car park and there was our two cars and one other, this should of been a dead give away.

We were looking for something to eat as well, and the menu was quite frankly disappointing, everything was served with chips including the chips.

One pint of cider later in the garden in the cold because we felt uncomfortable with the staff staring at us as we sat in the bar we were on our way.

“If you want a ‘restaurant’ why visit a ‘pub’??”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2012

If it is the sterile, spotless, modern, plastic & marble environment of a city ‘wine bar’ you enjoy then this is not the place for you. If it is the same old ‘traditional’ mass-manufactured, micro-waved menu you enjoy from a typical so called ‘pub’ chain, likewise this is not the place for you.
However....If you enjoy the countryside proper, then this is a lovely pub located in an idyllic position in the New Forest.
It has a wide range of ales, ciders and beverages, and a varied and interesting menu of fresh ‘home-cooked’ fish, meat and vegetarian dishes, made to your request. The helpful and friendly chef and bar-staff are always very accommodating.
It has a clean and tidy ‘open-plan’ bar area, with wooden tables and chairs and a lovely wood burner for the winter. In the summer enjoy wooden benches in a lovely garden with patio, kids play area, ‘owl-aviary’ and horse corral.
Ramblers, riders, cyclists, twitcher’s and lovers of the New Forest in general are welcome, along with ‘well-behaved’ pet dogs, and horses alike!
This is a country pub in the countryside, with interesting and friendly locals, lovely landlady, and a ‘character landlord’ who has many a tale to tell. It’s always a pleasure to revisit this establishment, well done to all concerned!!
