“Peperbox house- best breakfast!”
Reviewed June 28, 2012

We spent a lovely night at Pepperbox house. Very comfortable bed and Jane provided the most wonderful breakfast- fresh fruit/, homemade bread and jam and great quality 'fry up'.
Quirky and friendly, we enjoyed our stay immensley.

It is always a mistake to judge anything in absolute terms, rather than by their own merits, so we don't judge bees because they can only make honey - what, not bread? Sausage & Mash perhaps? and so Pepperbox must be judged by its own lights, which are charm, age, and hosting.
Mrs Jane Skinner is attentive, but not intrusive; will join in, but will not initiate; will assist when asked, but will not "organise" you. She produces some excellent English breakfasts which are as big as you want them, but you will not leave the table having failed to do justice to of one of those enormous meals. Cereals; fruit-juice; fresh fruit; fruit salad to start, and you end with any amount of toast - fantastic "artisanal" bread (home made? - she does cook), croissants etc and superb marmalade - this IS home made.
If you want access to the New Forest - Exbury Gardens, Bucklers Hard, this is the place to stay, it's small and cosy, you will not be bumping into an endless succession of other guests.
We would recommend.

Pepperbox House is a must for anyone interested in visiting Beaulieu and the New Forest. The location is excellent, the house oozes quintessential English charm, the gardens are lovely, the rooms wonderfully comfortable and Jane (the owner) couldn't be more welcoming and helpful. But it is the food that we will most remember: homemade bread and preserves, stewed fruit, organic eggs and the best sausages ever for breakfast! Jane also offers evening meals on request and these are an absolute delight and probably the best you will find in Hampshire - or anywhere in England for that matter! Request the treacle tart - it's amazing!
