A lovely setting in the heart of the forest. This was our first time and we liked the menu choice as it had a good selection ranging from four ploughmans options through to the more usual hot and cold choices. A good variety of starters, puddings and beers too.
We ordered two different ploughmans and couldn’t fault them. The ham and cheeses were from neighbouring counties, including good bread, salad, pickle, chutneys (to include an amazing spiced red onion chutney), and the traditional apple.
It’s hard to find this kind of traditional Brit food these days and we’ll be back for more.

Found this pub/restaurant literally by chance and glad we did. Had fish and chips it was huge and delicious. Pricing was pretty good and they have their own micro brewery - an added bonus. Views from most of the tables into the forest are a nice back drop to your meal.

After a beautiful day at the beach on the way home we decided to stop at the red shoot, we had our Jack Russell terrier with us. The fab staff made us feel so welcome, the menu was good, we both opted for the Hunters ploughmans, I can quite happily say it was one of the best I have had the way it was executed was perfect, so we couldn't leave without trying the puddings! We will most certainly be back.

First impressions are good- lovely location, busy and with an atmosphere!

Our first table though - well, the radiator was on. Full blast. It was Saturday 8th June and in the 20s. We were a little warm so had to move...

In brief, service was very good, quality of the food was average but the portion sizes are literally laughable. I don't mind admitting I like my food but when a couple next to us had theirs served (before us) I could not believe the portion size of the scampi. It would barely do for children. Our burgers were little better. As I have said, the quality was fine (read: average) but the prices are above average. I'm afraid that they are being a little greedy with their pricing, stingy with their portions and punching above their weight. They are a pub, not a restaurant. They have confused the two to their detriment....

Food is reasonably priced, Dogs and horses are allowed, and water provided, The Pub is right in the forest and great for for walks. Great Beer, what is not to like.
