“Lovely lunch”
Reviewed August 21, 2013

We chose this pub as they were happy to accommodate a large group of 12 plus young children. We traveled from the Cadnam direction on a sunday lunchtime and unfortunately got stuck in the usual Lyndhurst traffic jam.
We ended up in a quiet corner of the pub near the kitchen. My partner and I tried the burgers. Beautiful homemade burgers which were very tasty, this was priced quiet reasonably at about £10 which I would guess is the average. We had two large cokes which cost £6 which I thought was very over priced. There is a lovely large garden where you can play French boules.

“Very much a locals pub”
Reviewed August 18, 2013 via mobile

Lovely looking and quite welcoming pub, but not a good atmosphere and unfriendly locals. Ordered roast which came in 2 mins and was obviously reheated and been lying around as was the dressed crab. Wouldnt recommend - the locals keep the pub going clearly

“Horrible”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

While the food was very good indeed, the atmosphere and customer service was lacking somewhat! My partner and I had our daughter with us (who is only 6 months old and obviously in need of a pushchair) and decided to sit in the corner out of the way of other customers. When I went to order our food we were told to move to a different table as they might get busy and they may need to use that table! We reluctantly agreed and were moved to a smaller table right next to the bar and had nowhere to put our pushchair without it being in the way of other patrons, whilst all the time we were there the restaurant was empty! We were also getting some filthy looks off the locals like their money, (if not for tourists) would keep the place open! The food was beautiful but extremely overpriced as were the drinks! Overall: bad experience with staff and locals but food was great!

“dreadfull food”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

the beer and the staff were ok but the food was overpriced, overcooked with miserly portions and not cooked with any interest.-we had the salmon en croute which was dreadful and I had the liver which was like leather (what there was of it ) on so called bubble and squeak which contained swede which is not an ingredient of bubble and squeak and this was inedible.
the sweet potato chips were so overcooked they were like bullets.
this is a place where the do not worry about repeat custom--just ripping off the tourists who they know will not be back.

“Good but the customer is not always right!”
Reviewed August 3, 2013 via mobile

Just finished dinner having been at Peppa Pig world all afternoon. First impressions excellent - kids played happily in garden and good food. However when my husband sent back his steak having asked for medium and being given one well done, he was told that the chef def cooked it medium (!) and although they'd cook another he'd be in the back if the queue! We mentioned to the manager as genuinely thought it was a lapse in what had been a lovely experience. We were then told the manager agreed with the chef. So, we were left waiting for another 40 mins as back of the queue. Shame as otherwise a great find.
