“Booking accepted due to technical glitch then refused by guest lodge. Owner not interested!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2009

I booked [--] and 5 out of 6 rooms said "minimum 2 nights stay", so I chose the 6th room which did not. The booking was accepted but I had to await confirmation.

My girlfriend and I made plans for our trip in the meantime.

24 hours later I received an email from "Bettyt" which I guess must be Betty. You would think you could get your name right on your email client. She said that they have a policy of 2 nights minimum stay, so my booking was refused.

I called her back and said that their booking system accepted 1 night, and their website [--] has no mention of this policy under their 'Policy' page. She was not interested at all, and refused to make any exception even though it was their fault.

I advised her that I will be writing to those that accredited their guest lodge[--]. She didn't care.

The customer service here is shocking! Stay away from Burwood Lodge!

You cannot please all people all of the time. Unfortunately there is a common miss understanding when people book through The New Forest Tourist Association web site, that this is a secure booking. When in actual fact, by entering your details on this site, you are only making a request for a room. The site will allow this request to take place even though the room has been booked on the door step by a passing guest, as it is already to late to update the system. The site clearly states that the entry is a provisional booking request and people should wait 24 hours for confirmation before leaving for the Hotel/Guest House of their choice. Understandably people are upset when their travel plans have not gone to plan, but I hope that this explanation will help to make future booking easier and lead to more visitors staying at the Hotel/Guest House of their choice and enjoy the beautiful New Forest National Park.

Making the most of the unusual sunny weather and late autumn colours, we decided last minute to visit the new Forest.

Having phoned many numbers on the newforest tourist website, most places were full - the Burwood only had 1 room avail which was a twin and not a double.

When we arrived, we didn't know what to expect, but were greeted by the owner and she showed us to our room which was actually a room equipped for disabled people. This was a huge ground floor room which overlooked the garden. I've stayed at many 5 star hotels around the world and this room could rival them all.....!

Breakfast the next day had many options including smoked salmon.!

Its a 2 minute walk into the high street with many pubs and restaurants.

A great place to stay and hosts made us very welcome without being too intrusive.

We stayed at the Burwood Lodge for one Night, and found the hostess to be very welcoming and knowledgeable on the surrounding area. The Burwood is on the main road into Lyndhurst, therefore it's location is a perfect base for exploring the New Forest. The owners have prepared a collection of laminates with details of suggested walks - We chose 'The Four Pub' walk - which took us around the village and to pubs we probably wouldn't have found.

The house is very clean, welcoming and had a nice relaxed atmosphere with lovely gardens and plenty of parking.

We had eaten out the night before at a recommended pub just down the road, so couldn't manage our 'full english' breakfast, but they provided us with a bacon sandwich for the road instead. Instead we just had some toast and a huge pot of tea and coffee for our breakfast, but everyone's looked really nice. There were lots of alternatives - fresh fruit, yogarts and cereals provided.

I'd stay here again - Our room was in the eaves overlooking the garden, but as it was a warm night, we had our windows open and the traffic noise was still apparent. The bedroom was clean although the bed was a little lumpy!

Overall, a good location and welcome awaits.

What good luck to walk into the town of Lyndhurst and find this lovely B&B just off the high street. The hostess was warm and welcoming. After showing us to our room, she directed us to a nearby short walk perfect for the end of a crisp Autumn day, and provided recommendations for places to get dinner. The room was spacious and complete with tv and tea & coffee making facilities. Breakfast options included a perfectly cooked full English breakfast. Lyndhurst is a charming town complete with a very good chocolatier. A great base for exploring the New Forest!
