We stayed at The Crown Manor House in Lyndhurst as a Christmas present to each other and it made a lovely get away for a couple of nights after the rush of the previous few days. The room was a really good size with a 4 poster bed and although it still retained that "old" look and feel, it had all mod cons and a superb ensuite, with a good sized and pressure shower, all very clean and even a soft close loo seat! (love them and they should be in all hotels/b&b) We got our dates mixed up and turned up a day early! but they hotel accomodaded us all the same without any fuss and as it was our mistake we were OK with the extra £40 we had to pay. I do feel the rooms are a little heafty on the price structure, but then it is a very touristy area and this was a treat. The evening meal was very modern and had some great tastes and visuals going on, but with there only being 5 main courses and desserts, it was poor that they had run out of steaks and the chocolate fondant by 9.00! Breakfast was a very good hot and cold anything you could wish for, affair and the staff were all very attentive. We did a local walk around the moor land which was suposed to take 1 3/4 hours, but due to a difficult to understand map and water logged tracks that dissapeared often, it took us 3 1/4 hours, but we didn't mind. If you go at anything other than mid summer after a drought, you'll need wellies and leave plenty of time to get back to civilisation before dark, you wouldn't want to be out there by yourself at night! The pub almost across the road, was excellent for our second evening meal and a little cafe down at the end of the main street, Indulgence I think it was called, is definitely worth a look as the cakes and scones etc were amazing. It's a lovely area at any time I would imagine, but summer will be rammed for sure. The Crown Manor hotel also allowed dogs and well behaved children, which we did not mind and everywhere accepts muddy shoes and boots as part of winter. So to sum up: The Crown Manor is very good, worth a "punt" if a little pricey.
