Food overpriced and poor quality ingredients. Good real ales. A "push 'em through, no return expected" pub. Give it a miss.

A lovely looking country style pub but the food ,(not bad menu),was obviously microwaved as it arrived within 10 minutes but it was ok. The ale was passable, however as a Camra member my expectations may be more than others. We had recently drank the same ale in the Red Lion in Bramshaw which knocked spots off this pub and charged considerably less as well! Nice surroundings but pricey for what we got.

My husband and myself found the Sir Walter Tyrell pub whilst cycling towards Rufus Stone in the New Forest last Saturday. The pub has a warm and welcoming feel, with a good choice of dishes on the menu.

I opted for the roasted chicken with chips and salad, unfortunately the chicken was a little dry, whilst the salad was sat in a pool of water. My husband went for the Ham Hock, which he said was very tasty.

It was a busy Saturday lunch and we were warned that it could take 1/2 hour from ordering to receive our meals, yet they were ready within 10 mins. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful.

We were looking for a pub with good food, easy car parking, accessible New Forest walks and with spacious garden facilities for dogs. We found all of those with the Sir Walter Tyrrell. We arrived at coffee time, made the pub our base for the day and didn't leave till tea-time except when we went for walks with the dogs. The staff were friendly and helpful, there was a good selection of food on the menu, and when our lunch came it was well presented and tasty. As it was a very sunny day we sat outside the whole time we were there. With so much outdoor space, our dogs did not bother anyone. A brilliant find, we will certainly be going back!

We go to this place for the view, one of the nicest in the forest especially sitting in the sun with a beer. With a large car park to the rear it's a pity parking is allowed at the front. The staff are young and amiable always ready to help. The food is what you would expect, "ping-chef" with sometimes interesting items like game pie. We will continue to visit in term time. As we live to the east we have diced with death trying to access Rufus Stone from the dual carriageway but now leave the M27 at Junction 1 and go first to Brook.
