Excellent four days in the middle of the New Forest.
- Room - very spacious (Room 25), noit a great view but this didn't spoil our stay at all

Have just had a 4 night break for half term, staying Sunday to Thursday and enjoyed the hotel and the location for the New Forest area "attractions". The room was spacious and clean and well presented, the king size bed very comfortable. Not many staying so all meals in the small restaurant area, but food was excellent, the best thing about this hotel, and probably justifying the somewhat pricy cost of staying (seems common in the New Forest Area) in a 3 star hotel. My only gripe is that with a fairly expensive set 3 course menu (which in part is very repetative each night) included in the cost of the stay, coffee or tea is an extra £2.50, very poor service from a hotel aspiring to high standards, at their prices it should be included!! It was noticable that few diners took advantage of this extra charge.

Overall however a nice hotel and stay, lots of hot water and heating (it was very cold weather during our stay).

Arrived for the weekend and the receptionist was counting money at the reception. She did not even look up at us until she had finished and then said "do you want to check in". No welcome at all! We went to the room which is badly in need of reburfishment. Furnishings very old fashioned and the bathroom was even older. The mould around the tiles around the bath said it all. Food was excellent though. However tried to book for the next evening and the lovely front restaurant was full but it was the attitude of the Maitre d' who told us we would have to use the "package" restaurant. The menu was virtually the same as the last evening anyway. We told him we were not on a package and we decided to go to the local pub instead for dinner which was very good. They welcomed us and were very friendly and were pleased to take our money....
