My husband and I decided to spend Christmas away this year, (2013) and chose the best Western Forest Lodge Hotel in Lyndhurst. What a brilliant choice!! We were spoiled from the day we arrived until the day we left. The food was exquisite, beautifully presented, and the staff were helpful, cheerful and respectful. There was a basket of fruit and chocolates left in your room, as well as baskets of fruit and nuts left all around the lounges for the residents to help themselves. Tea and coffee was available at all times. Entertainment was provided by the staff on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. We can't praise the hotel enough to do justice to their attention. The hotel also has a indoor swimming pool with towels, etc., provided. Give this Hotel a visit, you won't be disappointed!

Room Tip: We had a 'Crown' room on the ground floor, there people in the room above, but we weren'...

I've not written a review for Trip Advisor before but felt compelled to write one after staying here for the past few nights.

The hotel is ok and staff were friendly enough but if you're looking for a quiet night's sleep then room 30 is not the room to stay. Its walls and floorboards are paper thin, and with the room situated above the restaurant/bar area, i didn't manage to get to sleep till 1am most nights because of the constant chatter and cluttering coming from below. And if it isn't the noise coming from downstairs that keeps you awake, then the ridiculously creaky floorboards in the corridor certainly will.

Furthermore, room 30 has no window handle so the window is unable to open. At least a potential draft is kept out thanks to the toilet paper wedged in the window-frame, see the photo below!!!

Apart from the above, had a decent stay. In need of a decent night's sleep now that i'm home though!

Room Tip: Ask for another room if you're given room 30

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. Unfortunately due to the age and character of the building, creaky floors are sometimes unavoidable, however I am sorry you had a restless night at the Forest Lodge Hotel. Due to recent high winds the window in question had been damaged and was awaiting replacement. There was a sign attached to the window advising guests of this, however it seems to have been removed. The Maintenance team were waiting for the new window to arrive so that it could be replaced.

Stayed for one night and my overall impression was favourable. The staff I came into contact with here helpful and professional and my room was spotlessly clean with modern decor and electronics. I didn't give five stars because of a few small issues:

The floors boards outside room 22 are so creaky that I was woken up every time someone walked on them.

The ceiling to floor curtains completely covered the rooms only radiator, meaning the room was cold all night.

The additional supplement prices on the menu are random and off putting. Example: if you want two sausages for breakfast it is an addition £2.50. I have never been to a hotel before that gives you one sausage only, and charges for a second.

Notwithstanding the above points, I would return to this hotel and that is the greatest compliment you can give a hotel.

This is our fourth stay at this hotel and on every occasion, it has been excellent. The Verderer and Crown rooms are very comfortable with good facilities and the staff are friendly and attentive. The food is really good with a freshly cooked breakfast and the extended evening menu now offers more choice and reasonable prices. Already looking forward to our next visit.
