“Great base for exploring the beautiful New Forest”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2013

We have recently spent a four night stay at The Forest Lodge Hotel in one of the Crown Four Poster rooms on a bed and breakfast basis. This stay was arranged through a scheme operated in conjunction with a main stream supermarket which for us meant this stay was good value for money.
Check in was extremely easy, the staff both pleasant and informative. We were checked in very speedily and the offer of help with our bags was made. It should be noted there is no lift in the hotel so if you have heavy or numerous bags it would be sensible to take up the offer.
Our room was easily reached at the top of 2 flights of stairs but we felt was a bit on the small size for a four night stay. It was however very well furnished, good and clean and the bed very comfortable. A point to note within the room was a distinct lack of drawer space. Hanging space was fine, the use of a safe very welcome and the hospitality tray well stocked and replenished daily. The bathroom was of a good size, cleaned each day and well stocked with clean towels and toiletries. Luckily during our stay the British weather was very good and temperatures hot. However this did mean that our room was very hot despite having the window open all day and night. A fan was provided in the room but was too noisy to use. The building is fairly old and as a result the floorboards in our room were very creaky.
Breakfast was a most enjoyable experience. The staff very friendly and efficient, the food extremely tasty, well presented and with plenty of choice.
Within the hotel is a restaurant by the name of The Glasshouse. We ate there on one occasion and enjoyed some amazing food, beautifully cooked and presented and very good value for money. Both service and food were excellent.
There is a good size indoor swimming pool within the hotel but we did not get chance to use the facilities so cannot comment further on this or indeed the bar facilities that the hotel offers.
This hotel is ideally situated within the heart of the New Forest to get to many of the places of interest and is only a short walk from the town centre of Lyndhurst. We would certainly consider returning if in the area again.

One night stay whilst at Paulton's Park and part of a package so no idea about room rates otherwise.

However, room was spacious and spotless. Family room so it had bunk beds and a large double. Plenty of space for us 3. Usual facilities In place.

Check in was a diddle, staff very friendly. Had dinner in the 2 rosette Glass house restaurant and had a lovely meal, 3 courses for 2 for a very good price. Breakfast nice, good buffet and cooked but no beans! No beans at breakfast seemed odd but hey ho.

Never stayed in a best western but would do again. A cut above the premier inns and travelodges and would be worth the extra.

We spent two nights at this hotel in May and it is in a lovely location so that you can explore the surrounding area. Hotel was clean and staff polite and helpful on arrival. Room was a bit on the small side but adequate. Swimming pool was also lovely. However, downside of this hotel (and a very big put-off, which would prevent us staying again or recommending) is that it is so noisy. No sound proofing whatsoever, and we heard an entire conversation from a couple walking down the corridor outside out room! Floors creak at every turn and also the fire doors bang loudly everytime opened. Unfortunately, although we thoroughly enjoyed our mini-break, we came home exhausted because of disturbed nights!

Room Tip: Ask for one that is at the end of a corridor so hopefully quieter.

Our party of eight, cousins and spouses, use this hotel as a base for an annual get together on a Dinner/Bed/Breakfast basis. This is our fifth time and there has been a steady improvement over the years. The staff changes, we have noticed, seem to provide a friendlier and more helpful attitude, particularly in the Dining Room and Glasshouse. The meals in the Glasshouse were of particular note, not often all eight agree that excellence has been achieved! The noise, with the wedding, on Saturday was more than we have experienced in times past but the goodwill refund of £15 to each room was a nice touch. A little more attention to detail is needed, which of the Bar Staff didn't know Tio Pepe is a sherry? Who serviced Room 10 on 3 nights and didn't report the main light and fan not working in the en suite? The guest should not be quality control, that is for each individual member of staff to achieve by thinking like the guest! This is a very good hotel in a nice location and we will certainly return.

Room Tip: The upper floor rooms toward the swimming pool are quieter during functions

The hotel rooms are not noise proof. Both nights we stayed had loud music due to wedding receptions until midnight and then another hour of noisy tidying up. Do not recommend if you want to relax and have a good nights sleep. Doors and walls are not well insulated so you hear everything going on in the next room and corridor. Familyrooms are okay, but kids didn't get much sleep. Bathroom needs updating. Food and service in restaurant very good, but overcharged bill, so be aware. We will not go again as came back tired due to little sleep and that wasn't the purpose of w-e away!

Room Tip: No view from room 34, only roofs. Not noise proof at all.

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at the Forest Lodge Hotel. I am sorry that you were disturbed by the wedding receptions being held at the hotel. We do try to allocate rooms away from the function rooms for our non-wedding guests where possible.

We made the reservation for a party of two couples but were greeted on our arrival by receptionist Jasmine as if we should have been two singles. Although our friends' room was adequate, ours was certainly not; it was clear that as the smallest room on the floor it would be fine for one person but not two. As the hotel was full our request for an upgrade was refused. On arriving at the rooms both keys did not work, necessitating a trip back to reception to get them validated. The room, while clean, was very hot and the noise from the creaking floor boards in the corridor and stairs was extremely disturbing to say the least, with every footstep, trundling suitcase and banging of the door outside our room penetrating the thin wall. The shower room, no bath, was also a challenge; the shower itself while hardly niagara was adequate but it took minutes to get hot water into the wash basin. There were no towel rails and no face cloths. Yet our evening meal was of excellent quality, although the portions could have been bigger, and good value with the generous offer of a complimentary bottle of wine for each couple for dinner booked in advance. Breakfast was fine except for having to ask for the sausage and black pudding which were missing from my plate when it was placed in front of me. We have been very pleased to have stayed at several Best Western UK hotels, including Blunsden, Chelmsford and Southsea but we would not stay at this hotel again.

Stayed for 3 nights in December 2012. Had 2 rooms as went with family. Both rooms were lovely, we had a superior room as we wanted extra space for our son's travel cot - it was a fantastic room, very spacious with a sofa, lots of floor space. Bed very comfy and room spotlessly clean. The other room was a standard which allowed the dog. This was also very clean and ample room for a couple. We were very impressed. Breakfast was ok, bit slow with the service, everything seemed to take a while and our son got quite impatient waiting for us. Nice pool but it could do with being a bit warmer as we didn't want to stay in too long as we got cold. Overall a lovely hotel in a good location, nice walk into town which was flat and not too much of a walk.

Would definitely recommend and hope to return again.

Room Tip: Opt for a superior room.
