Description: The Crown Stirrup is a country pub in the heart of The New Forest serving classic pub food, grills & just good grub! We offer a range of drinks in our fully stocked bar & a large menu so there is plenty to choose from. We have indoor seating with an open fire plus a large forest garden which leads you onto many walking tracks through the New Forest. We are family friendly with a scrumptious kids menu and we also are dog friendly throughout (even a few bites to eat for our four legged friends).

We are locals and used to frequent The Crown and Stirrup on a regular basis after a country walk. We've just been there for the first time in six months and have had the worst sunday roast you could imagine. Beef like burnt leather, frozen potatoes and yorkshire puds, veg boiled to kingdom come. No care, attention or love in anything that was put in front of us and the empty tables at what was once a thriving basic country pub should be a dire warning sign to the new management. You should be embarrassed to serve food like this in such a great location. Up your game guys or you will go out of business - even hungry campers will not take this muck without complaint.

A lovely pub inside but the best thing is definitley the garden. It has a fantastic fire pit with seating all around, an old fashioned skittle alley, an outside ice cream cabin and a kids corner too. The only fault is the prices are probably the highest in the village.

I arrived to a warm cosy welcoming pub. Beer was good staff friendly and helpful, it was the first week for the new landlord. My friend had arranged for 8 of us to eat at lunchtime and had reserved a table which had been done. We ordered our food all different dishes and some more drinks this is where the fun starts!!

The young gentlemen behind the bar give us short measures of beer, when asked if he would top them up he replied with you have a full measure. Which my friends and i replied no a full measure at the top of the glass. The young man was adamant he was correct and refused. Not wishing to cause a scene I relented in my pursuit.

Then the food finally arrived an hour later all stone cold and not as described:-

Belly pork £12.50 rashers of bacon with a dollop of stone cold mash and few veg. RIP OFF

Winter ploughmans £11 cup a soup small piece of cheese wilted salad and a bread roll. RIP OFF

Cheeseburger with bacon £11 small bread roll a burger the size of a (baby bel) small bit of cheese and 1 streaky rasher and stone cold chips RIP OFF

Sausage platter £10 2 sausages chopped up (cold) roast potato (cold) chopped up and aunt bessy Yorkshire pudding chopped up (cold) with bowl of gravy RIP OFF

We did speak to the landlord who was very apologetic and waved the cost of the meals but for myself and my friends the damage has been done and we won't be returning.

I would continue but I can't be bothered!!
My recommendation to anyone reading this is to avoid like the plague.

Reserved big table for lunch, turned out the owners were leaving that day. They duly ran out of 3 of the drinks our party had been drinking as we went through the afternoon. Hampshire Golden ale was superb before it ran out.

The 6 reserved roasts were not available which was frustrating. Most of us settled for the pies, which were proper home made all round pies. (not just a dish with pastry lid on). The chicken chorizo filling and white sauce were very tasty. Other meals were so so and not worth repeating.

Service was slow, food took quite a while though on the last day what do you expect? This could go uphill or downhill with the next owners I suppose!

Nice big garden out back!

Fantastic place that serves amazing food! We visited on a Sunday with our son and 2 dogs, the place was packed! There was a little wait for our table although we had booked but that was fine as everyone was really friendly. The Sunday dinner did take a whileto come out, about 40 minutes, but it really was worth the wait! We will definitely be returning, it was great!
