“"Lovely Stay"”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2013

Spent two nights at the Stag at the begining of August, There is updating work being carried out at the present time with scaffolding on the outside of the building, consequently the room was quite dark and very warm, although the hotel had provided a fan which helped the situation. The bedrooms are of a good size as are the bathrooms and the King size beds are very comfortable. The breakfasts were of good quality and the evening meals were also good and reasonably priced. Would definitely stay again if visiting the area,

The hotel was unfortunate covered in scaffolding for our visit so it didn't look like we were expecting it to. Positive points first - the position of the hotel in the centre of Lyndhurst is great. It was easy to visit beauty spots in the New forest by car but also we were able to eat at a couple of excellent restaurants in the town, walking the short distances there and back. There is a car park at the rear of the hotel. The few staff there were were pleasant and welcoming. Breakfast was good. And now the reasons I was disappointed- the Inn is old which is of course what gives it its character but it was dark and gloomy - our room was particularly dark with very small windows facing on to brick walls and if this wasn't enough, they were covered in scaffolding too. It was warm and although a fan had been provided, the room felt airless. However, the bed was clean and comfortable and there was lots of storage space. The bathroom which was a good size had no window and a shower which which you could only fit under if you were less than 5 feet - and no shelf/surface to put your stuff on! There was a door stop in the middle of the floor which we repeatedly fell over in our bare feet until we covered it to prevent further injury.

We didn't have dinner in the hotel as it was very quiet and lacked atmosphere. Although the position of the hotel is good, I would not return as I really was not happy with the bedroom and the atmosphere in the hotel.

We only stayed one night but wished we had booked for longer. Although small the bedroom was clean, tidy, had all facilities you could ask for including a fan.Although saying the bedroom was small the bathroom was a good size with a good shower and fluffy towels. There was car parking and we were allowed to keep the car there even after we checked out. The staff could not do enough for us, nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was to a very high standard and again plenty of things to choose from. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and will be staying there again with my partner. First rate for the money.

The hotel is on the main street with ample parking in the rear. Convenient to the New Forrest, Beaulieu Abbey National Motor Museum and Bucklers Hard. The Inn is clean and comfortable and the staff very helpful. We enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it. As an older inn, it does not have any elevators.

Only stayed one night here but would have loved to stay longer. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The room was clean, bed was comfy, the bathroom was brill had everything you needed and was a good size. The hotel was in a central location which was ideal for other amenities in the area, other pubs and restaurants etc. The breakfast was lovely. I would definately stay here again

The staff at The Stag were most friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. Although I was only with them for the one day it was a most enjoyable time. The food selection was excellent and you know it is prepared freshly as it doesn't arrive on your table 30 seconds after you order, definitely worth the short wait. Nice big seating area at the rear of the Hotel too. The beer was tasty and well kept. I would definitely recommend The Stag to anyone.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back are quieter and away from the main road.

It is important to remember that this is more a pub with rooms rather than an hotel. That having been said the first impression was of friendliness and efficiency - the welcome was more 5 star than pub/ hotel and it just continued.
Unknown to us we had friends staying in a sister hotel - the Swan and Mary gave us a lift up there - then Nelson gave us a lift back!!!
Robyn was wonderful - all in all this exceeded expectations on every level.
I would not hesitate to recommend
