“Another Great Pub”

Again, another great pub of which we Brits can be justly proud. Friendly staff, great food - the specials are well worth trying - great beer and beautiful surroundings. Booked advised, they do get busy, but its well worth it.

“faultless”
Reviewed June 17, 2014

We dined here one evening only, as we had a very short break, and it was astoundingly good.
We had the scallop starter with forage green sauce (delicious) and the pate', followed by crispy duck cassoulet, and the pork with bean puree.
Too full for pudding (be aware - portions are huge, so either have a main and go for pudding, or just starter and main!) except for a small scoop of blood orange sorbet (for medicinal purposes, you see...) - mmmm!
I can safely say that these guys know how to cook!
Everything was beautifully presented and tasted delicious.
A real cut above many London gastro pubs.
After a lovely walk around the cottages nearby (take a left out of carpark down tarmac path and do a round loop - takes about 45 minutes and you'll need it after a meal here), we headed back for some peppermint tea! It was beautifully served on a wooden board, with little chocolate fondant square and a in a funky teapot.
The staff were attentive and kind. Normally, and I don't mean to patronise anyone young here, as I've been that age and worked in a pub too, but the under 25's tend to not always have the right training nor know how to treat customers. This certainly didn't apply to any of the staff at The Oak.
In particular, our lovely 20 year old waitress (the one from Coventry - you'll know who you are!) was friendly, unobtrusive, helpful and completely professional. A real asset to a place like this. And told us about the lovely walk around the cottages.
Whatever you do, even if you're only passing through, do not miss the chance to dine here.

Remember to book - they have 2 seatings at 6.30 and 8.30 and certainly for the 8.30, the place will be full.

Th only quibble I have (and that's because I'm a real anti-smoker), was that in the lovely beer garden there was too much smoke. They had put out a few non0smoking signs on a few tables, but these were interspersed with smoking tables, so it wasn't that effective.
Maybe The Oak could relegate the smokers to a corner and allow all of us non-smokers and smokers who don't like to smoke around others, some respite.

Thanks for a lovely evening - we'll be back :-)

Lovely setting, atmosphere, food and service. Popular and rightly so. The pork belly was exceptional.

“Good food, great atmosphere”

Great country pub, with the usual (but tasty) gastro-pub menu. Lovely intimate atmosphere. Usually has a list of tasty specials, including lots of fish dishes. Much recommended.

“Excellent venue”

A truly lovely country pub. Very , very friendly staff, nothing too much trouble. The food was very good but it was the welcome and consideration of the staff that made this inn truly stand out.
