“Great food and lovely old Inn”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2012

The Inn is in a very pretty village with an honesty library in the now defunct red phone box. The Inn is very comfortable and the eclectic mix of chairs and tables adds to the ambience which is relaxed. Our room (S Lloyd Stacey) is upstairs in the Inn. It is small but the bed was very comfortable and the rain shower was fantastic. Noise from diners downstairs (and in the upstairs private dining room) could be heard clearly until after midnight. Not a problem for us and it was a Friday night so you would expect the place to be busy.

The service was efficient but not very friendly. Staff were polite but not really interested in the clientele. Noisy clattering of crockery and cutlery in preparation for table settings the following day was a bit distracting at the end of our meal.

The food was delicious. Really nice flavours for both starters (ham terrine and a crab dish).

Main courses of duck and partridge were great. Robust flavours and a good wine list.

Lovely pannacotta but my husband's cheese was a bit cold. If I was in the area again I would definitely go to eat.

Went here one rainy lunchtime. The tables were well presented and the room was cosy. The menu looked inviting, with a good range of choice. Not cheap for a lunchtime at about £13 - £17 per meal. Some of us had Ham, Duck Eggs and Chips which was reportedly very good. The others had the Fish platter. This was also very good. Fresh and tasty. The only problem was with the service. All seemed very good upon arrival but when we wanted to order our food, we waited and waited. Eventually we decided to go to the bar, but were told someone would come to the table, which they duly did. The waiter was quite brusque - saying "we don't do Skinny chips" when we ordered them. Once we'd pointed them out on the menu, he agreed that we could order them (and delicious they were too). On clearing our plates, he was quite rude when we tried to hand him one of the plates - "Put it down, I'll collect it in a minute". A bit unnecessary we thought, and a shame because the food was very good indeed. We'd probably go back, but if we experienced the same service, that would probably be the last time.

I really enjoyed the food, creme brulee is to die for I will return just to eat another. All the staff were very efficent and polite, service with a smile. Theres is an amazing and extensive wine list. The menu is local produce and all delightfully fresh. There are some lovely walks all around and quaint little thatched cottages in the village, just down the road is stockbridge with some lovely shops.

My husband and I had dinner here on a Sunday evening. Food was delicious, service was friendly and prompt, perhaps a bit too quick between courses. Good wine list.

Actually came for a wedding reception and the staff could not do enough from the night before right through until the end of the wedding reception. We stayed overnight and the rooms were Immaculate with lovely country interior. Andy the chef did an absolute amazing job from a champagne brunch to
The wedding dinner to the selection of BBQ meats. Absolutely 5*. Paula, anka and the team were just brilliant.

We stayed at The Peat Spade in February on a snowy weekend, and had the most amazing time. Our room, 'Francis Francis' was beautiful and cosy with lovely fittings and the most comfortable bed.. All the staff were very attentive and helpful and the whole Inn had a wonderful ambience, great décor and was extremely welcoming.
The food was beautifully presented and delicious using local produce, many thanks to Andy and his staff.

Fantastic setting helped to make this a great relaxing weekend and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
