“Great little pub”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

We have been here mainly during the day for lunch and a glass of vino.
But also for evening drinks on occasions.
The decor is smart and tasteful, the ambiance good and food excellent. Prices very reasonable too for the quality of the food.
Have lunched alone on several occasions, and noticed other "ladies who lunch" there also, as is such a relaxed atmosphere.
All in all a very nice place to pay a visit while in Romsey, as it does seem to lack good quality pubs in the centre of the town.

“Pub or restaurant? Don't worry it's great”
Reviewed September 20, 2013 via mobile

We dropped in initially for a drink in the welcoming bar but liked the look of the menu and the friendly welcome. We were offered the opportunity to eat in the bar or restaurant but chose the latter. The same menu is freed in both but there is also a range of basket meals for the bar.
Slightly off putting to see the manager sitting in the middle of the restaurant doing his VAT return or equivalent but this was the only niggle.
Starters at around £5 were excellent - asparagus and egg and a crispy duck salad. He mussels with chips were exceptional - perfectly cooked in a rich garlic sauce. Clearly a popular menu choice. The sea bass fillet reflected the shrinking size of this staple and was a touch over cooked for her taste but might have suited others.

An interesting wine list offers a good selection (10+) of wines by the glass or carafe.
There are no airs and graces about this place just a friendly place to enjoy good food with pleasant service - and if yo leave your handbag behind they are happy to return it with a smile the next day!

“Worth trying.”
Reviewed September 15, 2013 via mobile

We happened on this place whilst searching for food. Being 7:30 on a busy Saturday night we were delighted like previous reviewers that this pub/restaurant is much bigger than you think.

We were shown to a small table, the host happily switched one chair for my husband. Food and wine delicious. Fish and chips was very artisan, slate plate, kilner jar and chips arranged aka jenga style. Husband chose chicken supreme and managed a creme brule for desert.

Service was great, busy but attentive staff. We summised one staff member smaller dark haired older gent might have been ex forces from his "at rest" stance manning the restaurant booking table?.

Highly recommended even if not prebooked.

“Fabulous food and not over priced”
Reviewed September 14, 2013

Went there for my friends birthday celebration, have been there many times for a drink or cake and coffee which is very good to. I went for one of the specials which was a seafood crepe, it came with a nice fresh watercress and a mixed diced pepper salad, it looked amazing when it came and everyone was jealous, it tasted divine a really beautiful light crepe with a gorgeous light cheesy creamy sauce and king sized prawns and mixed fish, every mouthful was divine. my friends had moules mariner which they said was lovely and two others had the chicken dish which was lovely we also had a side order of hand cut chips which were yummy, the only thing we found was the wine was quite pricey but saying that the house red at £18.00 was rather good. the food was not expensive for the great quality we had. I would say it was the best meal I have out in a long time and would recommend, the staff were very attentive and the restaurant manager was very charming and had an engaging smile. would go again. love Jane

“So good we went back the next day”
Reviewed September 7, 2013

We were away for a weekend and usually like to try different restaurants, but we enjoyed the olive so much we returned the second night. I hear it was a new team. The service and friendliness of the staff was excellent, the place was buzzing with a good atmosphere. The food was also good, fresh vegetables, good quality food, plentiful and nicely presented. If you're in town give it a try but beware this isn't a restaurant, it is a pub.
