“Wonderful service, outstanding food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 12, 2013

Our party of four went to the Brasserie for a meal to celebrate mum's 80th birthday. The food and the service was absolutely wonderful. We have all travelled extensively and eaten in some of the best restaurants in the world but this was outstanding. One word of warning though - leave room for the after-dinner chocolate martinis!

The white horse is a delightfully different hotel. Our room was small but beautifully decorated & had lovely bed line and accessories. Very different from the big chain hotels. Dinner in the brasserie was very good with excellent food and service. Breakfast was brilliant, freshly cooked to order delicious. The hotel is in the centre of Romsey. We enjoyed being close to the little shops & impressive Abbey. A charming and extremely comfortable hotel. A couple of minor points - no hook on our bathroom door and it could be noisy if busy as we could hear people talking in neighbouring rooms. Luckily they were fairly quiet.

We've known the White Horse since living in Romsey 23 years ago, and have stayed there three times since. It is a comfy old hotel which has been continually upgraded without losing its charm. So much nicer than the usual cookie-cutter modern ones. We ate dinner in the brasserie, and it was excellent and well priced. We have only a few minor gripes. Our room, in the Coach House, was long and narrow, so there was only an 18 inch gap between the end of the bed and the wall, making it difficult to get from one end of the room to the other. Also the hairdryer and towel warmer were not working, but were fixed as soon as we reported the problems. Finally, the parking is a bit inconvenient. One has to park in a public, pay-and-display carpark a short walk from the hotel. Fortunately, this inconvenience is mitigated by the fact that the parking is free overnight, and any ticket bought in the evening is timed starting from 8:30 the following morning. All in all, a very pleasant and comfortable stay in a welcoming establishment.

Room Tip: Some rooms in the Coach House was an odd shape. Room in the old hotel are larger and a better shape.

Very nice place, very well decorated and friendly people. We looked at the menu on their web site and we had all decided what we were going to order before we got there however, when we arrived we found that the menu was not the same as 'online' so had to rethink, very disappointing! This set the trend for the rest of the evening, most of the food was good, but as it was moderately expensive, we felt all of it should of been to a high standard. The Seared Scallops as a main course only had one more Scallop than the starter and was twice the price! Avoid the "Caramelised Banana" for pudding, its terrible. The waiter did arrange for a complimentary After Dinner Cocktail and was very apologetic, we were not charged for the pudding and adjusted the price for the Scallops. We left feeling ok about our visit but noticed a couple of days later that the menu on line had still not been changed so sent them an e-mail reminding them. We got a very curt e-mail back!! So not happy at all.... The Online Menu is still wrong!!

We had afternoon tea here last weekend and it was lovely! Cute sandwiches, scones, tartlets, eclairs - way too much food! The staff were friendly and attentive too. Would highly recommend! Although we didn't stay at this hotel it looked lovely and is right in the town centre!

Picked my chap up from Southampton on his return from 3 months on HMS Illustrious and booked in here for the weekend, what a lovely place. Staff without exception were friendly, informative & helpful.

We booked a room in the main building, (recommended) which was lovely. Excellent tea/coffee making facilities and a lovely bathroom.

Unusual breakfast arrangements, it's not included in the cost of your stay, Continental breakfast was negotiated upon booking at approx £5 per person per night, a cooked breakfast was an additional £10 each. We ate dinner in the hotel on the first night, whcih was super & very reasonably priced on a set menu - cheaper than the breakfasts!!

Afternoon tea .... to die for!

Only downside, parking - there is none, we had to drive round & round Romsey looking for a space.

Stayed here in December, nice central location in a pretty market town. Very comfortable room, view not great but as only an overnight stay not so important. Nice and quiet anyway. Very nice bedding and decor and super shower. Only downside is no car park now as been sold to build dwellings, had to keep our fingers crossed that our cars weren't interfered with over night in public car parks. We have eaten here before and it was very good but we didn't this time, the bar was lively but nice..

Room Tip: For quietness you may want to ask for a room not looking over the square although it will be the bes...
