Description: The Old Drum is a contemporary country pub in the centre of town. Real ales from local micro-breweries that change regularly, and fantastic locally sourced food all available in a relaxed, eclectic environment. There are three open fires, leather sofas and happy, smiling staff.Recently refurbished, we have discovered and uncovered the beautiful 16th Century pub that was hidden beneath layers of neglect. A wonderful beamed ceiling in the older part of the building and a twelve foot tongue and groove ceiling that has lain hidden since the sixties! We have ditched the sticky carpets and replaced, where necessary (and there was a lot of necessary!) The wooden floors with reclaimed timbers. Some of the brickwork has been left exposed and an amazing pin wheel cellar door now stands proudly behind the bar of the snug. The daily changing menu ranges from sharing platters and many pub classics. To a full on Sunday dinner

Made a short notice reservation in one of the two bedrooms. Beautifully presented & well priced.
Had eaten here before & will stay again. The delicious Wollop Ale is superb.

Thank Simon B

This venue has a lovely small dining room we were able to book out for a wake at really short notice. We stayed for lunch the day we went to book the wake which was also brill.
Management and staff fantastic and they have a super dog!

Definitely not your normal sunday roast. The whole joint was brought to your table and you carve it yourself. The meat was fine but the veg wasn't for me, pickled red cabbage, roast celeriac and some green thing that had no flavour and I didn't even recognise it. Horseradish was horrible and Yorkshire puddings almost burnt. The desserts were extremely expensive and the cheese board at £9 just wasn't worth it. Service was extremely slow. Expensive, prissy and I definitely wont go back.

Since the resurrection of The Old Drum into this lively Gastro Pub in Summer 2012 we are regulars at the bar and it has become our favourite for eating out.
Warm and welcoming with a great patio garden for the summer and three log fires for those depressing winter days the eclectic furnishings and décor add to the atmosphere.
Owned and managed by experienced professionals the mostly young front of house staff are happy and attentive.
An excellently stocked bar with 5 real ales, all kept in great condition, should make this a must for those who enjoy the products of local micro breweries, no "industrial" brewed beers here. A limited but adequate quality wine list and if you want cocktails can be mixed.
The food offering from sandwiches or baguettes and Tapas at lunchtime together with other menu offerings are all freshly cooked and served with panache. Evenings, and here our recent meal acts as the benchmark the short but varied menu instils confidence as too many choices can often disappoint. From the vegetarian main course and the seasonal game dish through to the sweets and coffee nothing could be faulted. The portions are carefully controlled and a blow out it is not but flavours and imagination make for a most satisfying experience.

My second visit to The Drum, the first time earlier this year for an evening meal in the pub, which was excellent although we were not seated in an ideal position as we were constantly being bashed by handbags as girls walked past us. Yesterday 7 of us went for Sunday lunch in the 'restaurant'. We were really well looked after and the Rib of Beef and all the trimmings was absolutely superb. I think my only criticism would be that some of the dishes are a bit "prissy" - pretty and too small for the money- although having said that they were delicious. Not cheap, but then not expensive for what you get. We will certainly be going back.
