Start with the negative : terrible location. Now, great food great great service and so so reasonable price wise, food was up to standard too. Taurine was nice, lamb nuggets not dissimilar to something from a fast food joint. The sirloin steak was cooked to perfection however sat too long before coming to table and was not warm. The confit of duck was best ever tasted without being hidden by false sauces which is rare in the best of retaurants. Cooked to perfection. The windows were cold the ceiling bland but the future is bright. With a change on the cards we pray for more modern lines and ambience. Three outstanding things. First the service. Second the food and wine choice. And thirdly the value. 2x3 course + (poor) coffee =£45. Can't argue with 10/10 status for this.

We have been regular diners at "Chequers" for a number of years and have never been disappointed. It is extremely well run and the students highly motivated by dedicated staff. Their enthusiasm and concern to please, adds to the enjoyment. The lunches (two or three course) offer a choice of imaginatively prepared dishes at a very reasonable price. The a la carte menu, available on Thursday evenings, includes some fine dishes (fish a speciality) always with interesting touches. It is a pleasure to take guests along, knowing they are going to enjoy a delightful meal. The wine list is short but well balanced and sensibly priced. The ambience of the restuarant is modern and pleasant. John & Jill Hill

Chequers Restaurant is part of Fareham College. By car you get to it by driving all the way round the college roadways almost as far as you can go. On the way you drive over a series of speed bumps. None of that decreases the pleasure of eating at Chequers. The 'staff' are all students as are the cooks, with tutors to guide them. We've eaten there many times, often at lunchtimes, but also at the Chequers' Theme Evenings, which run on average once a month during term time. The lunches are graded, so that different sets of students cook or serve on each weekday. Prices are super reasonable, (Three course lunch from £8.50 - £10.50) and give no indication of the sheer quality of the food. The Theme Evenings are always on a Thursday, where a set 4 course menu is served, and a welcome drink is offered on arrival. The whole evening is planned by one of the students and is a very important part of their course. We were introduced to Chequers by friends, and now we recommend it to everyone. You simply can't go wrong here, so do try it.

I spent a wonderful two hours as a birthday treat today in Chequers restaurant. The restaurant itself is modern but comfortable, with staff who were attentive, courteous and friendly. They had an interesting menu which was transformed into tasty looking dishes that were immensly enjoyed by all. I chose a cooked fig and ham starter, followed by plaice in a cream sauce which melted in the mouth surrounded by freshly cooked vegetables. Being a woman, I could not say no to the enquiry of whether I would like a dessert; the tart au citron with a blackcurrant sorbet and a single lit candle was followed by a round of "Happy Birthday" by the smiling young staff, what a treat.
All in all a really worthwhile experience if you want to eat well, enjoy good food and be treated to 5* service which will definitely not break the bank. It is well worth a visit, I shall without doubt be returning soon, an eating experience to repeat.
