“Great for the Grandchildren”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2013

Our grandchildren love going to this museum, they had a great time when there was a Lego exhibition, and recently the Punch & Judy show was really good, even I enjoyed it. There was plenty to do making the finger puppets, The staff have plenty of time for the children and are friendly and welcoming. There are plenty of interesting exhibits of local history which the 7 year old found interesting.

“Marvelous”

Been here a few time they change the artefacts frequently so always something different to see. There are loads of files you can check back on.
You need to go there to appreciate the full extent of local history

“A good Local Museum, staff enthusiasm could be improved”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2013

Time in Fareham and visited this Museum which is on the main shopping street and therefore well placed. A local museum with a number of interesting exhibits. The rooms are split into sections giving quite a large display area. One excellent section including buildings and equipment relating to the time when Fareham was a strawberry growing centre. Other coverage related to the brickfields and the sought after “Fareham Red” bricks that were used in the building of The Royal Albert Hall amongst notable buildings. Local “Old” and “New” photographs and a time line of general and locally related objects from the Stone Age through to present times although this appeared to end in 2005. One consideration to applaud is the size and positioning of the descriptive labels. So many museums and galleries have difficult to read information. Here it was very good. The Museum is open Tuesday to Friday from 10.00 am until 5.00 pm and 10.00 am to 4.00pm on a Saturday and is free. There is a small but well stocked café that leads to the garden on good weather days and has toilet facilities. From the study rooms I would imagine that local schools make full use of the museum. However, whilst it is clear that in the past curators and staff have taken great care and pride over the exhibits there was no interaction from any of the current staff. I really do not want to go around overhearing long discussions relating to staff shift patterns.
