Stayed here in January 2010 - needed overnight accommodation for a works Christmas party, and this had rooms advertisedI at 25 per night for a budget room - which seemed fine as I just needed a place to stay.
I picked up my keys from the bar area (where there was also a section used for lap dancing later in the evening by the looks of it - this really should have been a warning), got directed through to the budget rooms round the back. The keys were supposed to open the outer door and the bedroom door. first set opened the outer door, but not the bedroom door. 2nd set I tried opened the bedroom door but not the outer door. Eventually they gave me a selection of keys for various rooms to see if there was one that worked on both.
There was indeed a set that worked on both - but the room was up the stairs and at the end of the corridor. The corridor carpet was worn badly all through and clearly hadnt been replaced in about 30 years. There were signs on the wall warning about drug use, and how anyone caught using drugs in the rooms would be evicted. Always a welcoming sign when a hotel has to put up signs warning of that.
The room itself was small and very basic - fair enough, wasnt expecting much for the price advertised. The room also didnt have a window. When I came back to the room after the night out, the keys worked no problems. However during the night I was woken up by noises that were so loud and faked they could easily have been taken from a low grade porno film. This went on for a few minutes - then heard someone leave the room saying "top sh*gger of the month". Some time later this perfomance was repeated again. Would suspect that at least one of the participants had changed. Some time later, this was again repeated.
When I left the hotel there appeared to be a gathering of african woman dressed in glittery green and gold, presumably touting for more business. On the upside, when I went to return the keys (and for some reason pay), the pub was shut, so at least I didnt pay for being subjected to neighbouring rooms being used as a brothel. Cant speak for the "main" rooms, but definitely avoid the budget rooms - probably explained why they tried to put me in a downstairs room, as I suspect they would have realised what the majority of upstairs rooms were used for
