“Good value comfortable and convenient”
Reviewed December 29, 2009

I've stayed at this hotel before but since my last visit the place has undergone a refurbishment and is altogether a rather nicer place. Complimentary breakfast in the morning is a nice touch and the rooms are spacious.

One "gotcha" though is the price of the internet service. Pretty ridiculous given that so many locations provide this for free or at a much reduced fee.

I stayed in a room with two other friends, you can book in from 2pm and dont need to book out gain until midday, good selection at breakfast, eat as much as you like, all kellogs cereals, grapefruit, oranges, plus fresh fruit, toast, croissants, yoghurt, fresh juice and a coffee machine that gives you all the usual favourites, mocha, expresso etc. We paid £91.00 between the three of us with breakfast included and free parking, what more can you ask for, only down side was I booked a non smoking room and it clearly was not, but very quickly rectified by the staff on reception, you can even use the free phone in reception to call a taxi, very promt £6 into manchester, fantastic, would definately go again.

This hotel is located a few minutes from Salford Quay tram station and is on a modern business park. The check in was friendly and very quick, however I had to return to reception as the room key was not working.

My room was on the first floor at the rear and - unfortunately - just above the fans on the ground floor. At first the noise from the fans did not bother me, but later when I was trying to sleep they started buzzing loudly every 10-15 minutes which was quite disturbing.

Otherwise the room was generally OK; there was a little dust but the only real issue was that the bathroom had a broken shelf missing.

The bar was busy and comfortable in the evening and Sky News was showing on the TV.

In the morning breakfast was very disappointing; they had run out of orange juice well before 7am and there were no bananas or apples. The breakfast area was quite disorganised and staff seemed to struggle keeping up with a steady flow of customers.

The check out was fine, although whilst I was being served another customer did approach the counter and complain that there was no milk left, only to return five minutes later to tell the staff member they were completely out of coffee as well!

Overall it was a disappointing experience although the staff were generally friendly and keen to help. I think that had I been there in a different room on a different day then I would probably have had quite a different experience.

This hotel is well situated for trips to the city centre on metrolink, old trafford, the trafford centre and the chill factor. Friendly staff and a nice atmosphere.

We stayed in the Holiday Inn Express for two nights principly to go to the United match but we also went to a play in The Lowry Centre. Having checked out the rates at other hotels on the Quays which we had stayed at before the Holiday Inn was giving the best deal by far.
The room was large and both it and the bathroom were very clean. The hotel in general was clean and well maintained. There was ample cereal, juices, breads and beverages for breakfast. Having a car with us the free parking is a bonus.
Its location is great for both Old Trafford and The Lowry Centre with quiet walks along the Quays.
The only downside was that the staff were run off their feet on a match day. People were checking in at the same time others were wanting drinks and coffee, and the reception staff were expected to do both jobs at once. I think management need to look at employing casual staff on match days to cover certain duties.

We chose this hotel because of its location near to Old Trafford (about 1 mile away but the ground can be seen from the hotel) The staff were very helpful and friendly - but very overworked when the masses of United fans descended for breakfast all at 9am. The views from the window were scenic - of the quays and it was a quiet and peaceful location. There was also the Lowry Centre and War Museum nearby which could also be visited. It seemed like the whole hotel were United fans so it had a good buzz about it before and after the match - and lots of people were walking back that way. We were allowed to keep our car in the car park for free on the match day as well , after checking out, so that was great too.

Standard Holiday Inn Express located in the nowadays gentile Salford Quays area.
We were there to take in the football nearby, as it seemed were most of the rest of the hotel.
Great free parking, and a cosy bar. Staff tried to be helpful, but were stumped by the refusal of the in-house Internet kiosk to function. That aside it was a short walk across the quays to shopping, there were trams at the end of the Quay a short walk away, and of course it was near to Old Trafford.
Only negative was that we had no choice but to take a smoking room - it's hard to believe in this day and age that they still allow folks to smoke inside these places.
