Reviewed January 12, 2014

We boooked this meal prior to our evening entertainment. we arrived early but seated straight away. service was excellent and the food brilliant. we both had Bury black pudding with crispy egg - cooked to perfection. I followed with Sea Bass and my companion with the beef both enjoyed to the full.

“Terrace Bar food also well worth a try!”
Reviewed January 12, 2014

The Terrace bar part of the restaurant is great for walk up eating, with the same high standards of food and service. and less formality. Before seeing Warhorse (stunning production) we had a really good Lancashire Hotpot with lots of lean lamb and a little kidney under a sliced potato patty, and excellent proper spotted dick and custard, as good as anywhere. Decent wine, and all at a reasonable price for a theatre/gallery. Next time I'll try the pie and mash if theres any left!Really enjoyable!

“first visit”
Reviewed January 9, 2014

Booked restaurant for meal before seeing War Horse, menu interesting but didn't meet expectations. Starters arrived almost too quickly, how had they been cooked. Goats cheese 'gloopy' and so sorry I'd chosen it, friends black pudding starter excellent. Main course sea bass well cooked served with interesting accompaniments but as suggested in another review would for me be better with crispy skin. Staff friendly and helpful, in fact our waiter was good enough to point out 10% service charge was included on bill but was discretionary. I don't feel it appropriate to charge this for all bookings, it should be left to diners choice. Unlikely to eat here again.

Many thanks for taking the time to review The Lowry Restaurant. We’re sorry that your experience with us did not meet our high standards. With so many diners arriving at once and all wishing to be in the performance comfortably, there is an element of pre-preparation on many of our dishes; this enables us to ensure our customers are served in time to enjoy the performance without having to rush. We’re sorry that these timings weren’t quite right for you on this occasion. Our service charge policy is outlined on all of our literature and staff are asked to make customers aware that this is completely discretionary; we’re pleased that your waiter made you aware of this and you were able to make an informed decision regarding payment.

“Relaxing pre-theatre dining”
Reviewed January 9, 2014

This was our first visit to the Lowry theatre restaurant and we found it a pleasant relaxing experience. We had pre-booked and were shown immediately to our table overlooking the Manchester Ship Canal.
A choice of four starters, five mains and three desserts.
The starter came very quickly and my choice was red onion and goat's cheese tartlet. This was warm and delicious although the pastry was a bit hard to cut and I was afraid a piece might shoot off onto the floor.
We had to wait a while for the main course - it was very busy - but it was worth waiting for! Pork
loin, Savoy cabbage and smoked bacon, fondant potato, roast apple, stuffing. My husband's choice - Braised beef, bashed neeps, roast parsnips, bubble and squeak. Both were delicious. Our only criticism is that they could have done with more sauce/jus. They were a little dry but the meat was cooked to perfection.
Dessert was chocolate cookie with ice cream and morello cherry sauce.

“VIP Package”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

We enjoyed a meal at The Lowry meal as part of a VIP package . The food was excellent, well thought out and well presented. The staff were attentive but not intrusive . I was concerned that a three course meal, and half a bottle of wine each, before "War Horse" would be too much but the balance was just right. The seasonal menu is well thought out and the ingredients locally sourced . All four diners in our party thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the intermission interval coffee, already on the table waiting for us, was a nice touch too.
Pick your production, push the boat out , pre-book your parking and enjoy as much as we did.
