Reviewed this Hotel via website and thought slightly dated. How wrong we were. Very friendly greeting, helpful and nothing too much trouble. The Hotel is very clean and run very well. We were there for a family wedding at Berkeley Castle and this was an ideal place to stay. Big room, everything we needed, the breakfasts were wonderful, fruit, cereals, juices, cooked everything, the mushrooms are to die for! Nothing too much for Wendy, very calm and relaxed but very efficient at all times. If you need a reasonably priced Hotel in Berkeley, this is it. We so enjoyed our stay in room 8 over two nights - wonderful. Thank you to all the team who made our stay wonderful.

We spent two nights at the Malt House and found it very comfortable with friendly and helpful staff. Everything was spotless and our only niggles were that it was, if anything, too hot at night (although very cold outside!) and that we could hear the skittle alley down below, although this was not a problem as it closed before we wanted to get to sleep. The breakfast was excellent. Because of inertia and cold weather outside, we had meals in the restaurant both nights. Once again the service was very friendly and efficient. Our meals were tasty, with generous portions, and we were really pleased to have four vegetarian options to choose from. Definitely a place to return to. Thanks to Wendy and her team.

PS: We had recently been visiting a disabled relative who uses a mobility scooter, so this was in our mind - not sure if it would be accessible for people who can't manage stairs.

This is the first time i've written a hotel review without actually getting to stay there.
We booked the whole hotel for a wedding party a year before the event.
We had been back three times over the year and had paid a deposit.
A matter of weeks before the event we went to hand in our list of exactly who was in which rooms to be told they had no record of the booking or the deposit paid! I was stunned to hear this as it was the very lady who I had spoken to face-to-face over the last year.
She was even saying there was no record while holding the original booking form in her hand! When this was pointed out, she said she had filled it in incorrectly which somehow she inferred was our fault.
When we suggested she cancel the other guests she had now booked in after us, she refused and simply dumped the deposit back on the bar. No appology, no explanation. I then had to rehouse a whole hotelful of guests last minute, which thankfully i managed. If i hadn't gone in this time, I would have had to deal with a bus-load of hotelless guests on the wedding day itself.
Terrible service and absolutely untrustworthy. If you are getting married at the castle book this place at your peril - they'll drop your booking, refuse to say sorry and smirk from behind the bar

A warm welcome, and an extensive menu more than satisfied the 7 of us who discovered the Malthouse half way round a cold and bracing walk. We left well satisfied by excellent food, generous portions and kind attention. Will definitely visit again.

all 7 of us had a delicious meal here in early December 2011.
Haven't stayed but would definitely consider doing so based on the food quality.

We attended a wedding at Berkeley Castle a couple of weeks ago.
We were given details to book at the Malt House.
There was no reception desk to book in,that was done at the bar,no problem. We had an excellent bar snack then we were shown to room 9,(if you have vertigo don't stay there, the rooms are in a circular corridor, probably due to the age of the property).a double bed one bedside cabinet,on the other side I had about 6inch space to get to bed the other side.No draws to put your clothes in, no phone, only a tiny door window, hence we left the bathroom light on allnight.Breakfast was very good.Wouldn't stay there again not worth the money.
If we had booked it ourselves we would have complained at checkout, but as we hadn't it didn;t seem fair to do that.
