“A very enjoyable 'get away' for parents!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2013

I took the girlfriend away for a two night stay last weekend to have a break from playing mum.
I picked this up on an amazon local deal and for the price it looked perfect for what we needed.
We were after somewhere where we could just relax with minimal noise, have a few drinks overlooking lovely scenery and good food, and we got exactly that!
The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, and the food (both breakfast and dinner) was fantastic. Very good choice of hot and cold breakfast compared to other hotels we have stayed in at this price range. There was also ample parking.
The room was clean and the view from our room (46 in the garden wing) was fantastic. We slept quite well considering the temperature over the weekend!
The only slight negative was the water pressure was quite weak. The toilet required a few flushes and the water seemed only to fall leisurely out of the shower, but this was not enough to dent our impression of the hotel.
The grounds are lovely and well kept and there are many scenic walks to be had nearby.
We walked in to Stroud (about an hours walk, or there are buses and trains) and had a lovely day looking around the farmers market, vintage shops, and a cheeky beer or two.
All in all, we were very impressed with all aspects and shall not doubt return in the future.

Couple 25-35 from London.

We had an overnight stay here on our way from Yorkshire to Devon and booked the 'ramblers package' which included room, three course dinner, breakfast and packed lunch. We had a lovely twin room in the old house beautifully furnished with a good sized bathroom. Although we were there on a very hot night an electric fan made the room more comfortable (British hotels don't normally need aircon!) The food at dinner and breakfast was very good. Reception, restaurant and housekeeping staff were all very pleasant and friendly. We certainly hope to return for a longer stay to explore the area. The only downside was the number of stairs to our top floor room which are difficult to negotiate with luggage.

Room Tip: If you have difficulty with stairs, ask for a lower floor room.

Stayed for two nights on a groupon deal in an upgraded room in the main building.
The bathroom was bigger than many hotel bedrooms I have stayed in! Dinner and breakfast were both excellent. In many non chain hotels one has to put up with the Idiocincracies of the owners and their bizarre ideas of what is important to guests but at this hotel the balance whas spot on between offering comfortable traditional surroundings and modern facilities. Excellent staff who coped well with a power cut affecting the whole area. Lovely grounds with a canal at the bottom of the garden. Good location to explore the Cotswolds.

Bought a 2 day break from Groupon for this trip. Upgraded to a Manor Room and was well worth the £30 extra. Was not treated any differently than the other guests. Beautiful grounds and the main house old and creaky, nice areas to sit in the lobby. The restaurant evening meal was very good. Breakfast was good - cooked to order - selections of cereal on a buffet table.- would be a good idea to have a few more choices on that table - like bread(there was some fruit, yoghurt and danish pastries also).Staff lovely. Rooms clean.

Room Tip: We were told Room 2 is good - four poster but Room 3 was also lovely-palatial bathroom . Room 10 was...

The service and breakfast and bar food were excellent. The gardens and walks nearby are good and varied and the Southern Cotswolds are interesting with lovely small tows and villages without the overcrowding of the main Cotswold tows further east and north.
The hotel room itself was comfortable but old fashioned. The TV was elderly and lighting poor but
the staff food and environment were first class.

Room Tip: Back of the hotel is best as near a main road and from the back you look out onto the gardens and t...

Room was in need of update. Cracks around door and ceiling sagging in one corner. Bed was comfortable and bathroom was modern. Room was very dusty, especially under radiator.
Found breakfast service was good but bar service was poor before and after dinner.
Need more seating, tables and umbrellas on the terrace.

From the first phone call asking for verbal directions to the hotel, to the greeting and organisation of registration to re-booting of the wifi for me, the quality of customer service from the elegant young woman on the desk set the tone for my whole brief stay. A wonderful place. well worth popping out of the back gate and having a look at the church too, to see a the classic twin pillars of a medieval village.
