“Okay - But had better service!”
Reviewed March 23, 2013

Firstly id like to say we have used these rub/restaurant for years now and we love it, the location is lovely, the pub is dated but that is what makes it!

On this occasion we were a little disopointed with the service, although we didnt have to wait long it was just we didnt really like the man who was serving behind the bar, like i have said before we come regulary but this was the first time we had seen this gentleman. He was abrupt & a little rude at times, ive got to be honest it has put us off a little!

The food was its usual standard, it was fresh, tasty & well presented but prices have seem to have got alot higher.

“Best Beer in the Forest”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

We regularly go to the Forest of Dean and always do a walk with friends on the Sunday. Everyone looks forward to arriving at 'The cheesy Chips pub' - and I look forward to a pint of Butcombe Gold!

“Lovely Lunch”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

Had Sunday lunch today. Lovely pub, real fire. Good atmosphere. Our roast dinner was very nice, lots of beef. Lacked a little on the veg, but apart from that it was a very nice lunch. Would recommend the pub to anyone. The only thing we found a little off putting was that the landlord was a bit off with us, (we are assuming it was the landlord), no smiles and was a little abrupt when he spoke to us. Maybe he was having an off day, we dont know. It wouldnt stop us going again but did make us feel a little uneasy when ordering at the bar. Really nice little pub though, next to some amazing walks. Good outside area for families in the summer.

“Recent visit 20th Feb 2013”
Reviewed March 2, 2013

A group of 2 families visited for an eve meal after a recommendation from local folk! We were not disappointed and they were very friendly . The most attractive feature was the price as we had spent a week in the Forest of Dean and believed food was very over priced.

Unfortunately we also lost our mobile phone which we had reigned ourselves to. But 3 days later we had a phone call to say it had been left at the RS and the Landlady posted it back to us in Derby for which we are extremely grateful.

Great value for money and lovely folk, recommended highly.

“Very good lunch.”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

Had lunch here while staying in a nearby village. The meal was very good, not posh food, but good quality pub grub. Very nice setting, but too cold to sit outside when we visited. No complaints at all. Pub is not in a village and is easily missed, but worth seeking out.
