What an excellent outcome.... through increased work commitments (event organisers), this was the first year we decided to stay in the home country for a holiday and we were mightily glad we did. Not only was the forest location just the tonic we needed for an exhausted mind and body, we were delighted that the luxury log cabin was indeed as described. Whilst this fell short of the children's expectations of log cabin folklore, (ie bare timbers, draughts, cobwebs!)we the shattered parents were glad of the amenities: dishwasher, combi boiler fed hot water, full working kitchen etc. We found the pool decent and clean, the campground was well managed, the staff friendly and there was plenty of organised activities. And best of all; miles and miles of woodland walks and cycle rides in the Forest of Dean.

We're now booking for half term, (unprecendented!)

Room Tip: Ask for a cabin facing onto the lake

Planned this holiday with grandsons because of the advertised facilities and location and CSMA's reputation. Unfortunately, the log cabin was very dirty and obviously there has been little done in the way of updating. There were cobwebs everywhere inside and out. I know I am fussy but I don't care for sharing my shower with spiders. Luckily I read some reviews before we went and at last moment packed cleaning material!
I complained to Paul whilst there about the PGL activities. They were just not value for money. There were not enough staff for the amount of kids and so we waited around for most of the time. They arrived late and finished early and didn't have the correct equiptment. New car but not even pliers to adjust the gun stands. What a joke!
The pool was a great success with grandsons but it smelt bad - drains need cleaning. The bar staff were good and the food fine. There could have been more info about the walks around but the reception staff were good at giving directions. My advise - take a tent and don't book any extra activities!! Oh and do not take accomodation near the entrance - the noise is awful.

Room Tip: Take a tent or caravan or if you have to book their accomodation get one away from the entrance - th...

My Partner and I booked a three night holiday in our folding camper at Whitemead. I had stayed at Whitemead a number of times over the years from being a child and have many happy memories at the park. I decided to take my partner there for the first time and it didn't let me down. We decided to cancel our next site and stay there for another night we where enjoying it that much and my partner really once to go back again next year. We also had family who visited us for the day and they are even looking at booking future holidays on the park. It is a true family site with good food and friendly staff and if you enjoy cycling as much as we do there are cycle paths just outside the site entrance. The views from the site are second to none. The park shop is well stocked and Lydney is only a ten minute drive away. We where really saddened to leave.

Having looked at going there for years we finally did and have to say it was fantastic and we have booked again!

We have a campervan so booked a pitch with hookup and turned up. Staff were friendly and helpful.
THe place is overall in ok to good condition - a lot better than some places we have stayed (Would rate it similar to camping caravan club condition). It has everything you need from a campsite with the added bonus of a swimming pool, gym, restaurant, bar, outside games, evening entertainemt(Not really our cup of tea but Kids loved early evening entertainment) and being in the Forest of Dean it has loads woodland to wander around as well.

The only grumpy person we met was in the shop (Small but has essentials) and most guests were also smiley.

Given 5 stars for value - but then i am a CSMA member so get a discount - worth joining at £17 a year if you intend og going to Whitemead

My family and I have just returned from a four night break at The Whitemead Forest Park, we booked a deluxe plus lodge as we were intending to treat ourselves to a little bit of luxury, only to be confronted with what can only be described as a static caravan covered with cladding, so of course the dreaded damp/musky smells were present which are associated with old static caravans along with a constant smell of urine before we payed a visit ( if you know what I mean) we are a family which do not normally complain as we have a 'you get what you pay for' attitude but as these lodges are expensive we feel people should be advised to book an apartment which are built of brick and cheaper rather than a lodge, however after the disappointment of the accommodation the site is set in beautiful grounds with geogeous trees and modern facilities especially the pool/jacuzzi and forest bar.

Room Tip: Book apartment not lodge

Having visited Whitemead about 3 years ago and stayed in one of the log cabins, we had no hesitation in booking a last minute trip (having cancelled our camping trip elsewhere due to the wonderful british summer!). We booked a top floor apartment and were were really impressed with the size and space inside especially as it was just my husband, myself and teenage daughter. One main bathroom with bath and shower, basin and toilet plus an ensuite shower room, toilet and basin off the master bedroom which was enormous. I was surprised as the comments about the apartments looking tired - perhaps some of the chest of drawers could do with replacing but all very clean and tidy and perfect for a 4night break.

Whitemead is such a relaxing place with such a huge park area for all the activities that are provided during the holidays but never feels too busy or cramped. Activities can be booked in advance but nothing really seemed too overbooked. We did not eat in the restaurant nor took part in the evening entertainment but plenty of people seemed to really enjoy themselves. The swimming pool, fitness and leisure areas are fantastic for all ages including a steam room and sauna. All the staff we came across were very friendly and helpful and would have no hesitation to recommending anyone for a relaxing stay. As the Olympics were in their first week during our stay, the quality TV was a bonus (the TV we had in our Log cabin before had quite poort coverage). We do not normally watch that much TV whilst away but made an exception this time. Phone coverage is very poor which we loved as it meant our teenage daughter did not have her head in her phone all week!

The location of the park meant we were able to cycle directly into the Forest which was lovely. Reception had a map to get us on our way and the ride is very family friendly, well maintained with a couple of refreshment/cycle shops en route. We did not visit many other places this time as we enjoyed chilling out on site. We will be back again very soon.

This is a lovely location and really nice site - only snag is - we wished we had camped instead of staying in a 'lodge'.

The park is really nice - lovely location, very tidy and nicely laid out, good facilities etc.

The accommodation, however, is a different story. We stayed in a deluxe plus lodge which is pretty much the most expensive accommodation on site. We have stayed in quite a few lodges on various different sites around the country and this definitely was the worst!

To call it a 'lodge' was a stretch of the imagination - caravan would be a better description. Thing is, we wouldn't have been so bothered if it hadn't cost so much. We were quite surprised at how small and cramped the lodge was. Hot water was intermittent; furnishing and general decoration was tatty. The floor was going through in the bathroom. Some of the windows had dropped in the frames leaving big gaps. There was very little room in the kitchens for storage of food items. The floors in the bathroom and en-suite shower room could have done with a good clean before we arrived.

Granted it was the only hot week of the summer when we visited, but as the accommodation was basically just a caravan - it got extremely hot during the day and the aspect of it meant there was no shade on the decking preventing you from sitting outside - a parasol would have been nice.

To be fair any issues re: things such as the intermittent hot water were dealt with very promptly and courteously by the onsite staff, but despite that we did finish our holiday feeling slightly like we had been ripped off. The bottom line is the accommodation should be half the price for what you get.

We would possibly go back to the site to camp, but would definitely not stay in the accommodation.
