“Amazing stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2012

Just returned from a great stay at Cowley. Such a wonderful place in beautiful surroundings.

The service was really good, welcoming staff and generally helpful throughout our stay.

The rooms were also of a good standard, clean and with incredibly comfortable beds and a great view of the lake. Bathroom was amazing too.

We had dinner in the restaurant during our stay and the food was of a very good standard. Pre-dinner drinks in the lounge were great go for the espresso martini.

Also indulged in a spa treatment during my stay. The staff were, again, very friendly staff and I had a wonderfully relaxing facial.

All in all, Cowley is a great hotel that I would recommend to anyone.

Cool, contemporary and chic with great service and wonderful food and wine. It's a great place to stay for a weekend break. Its cool furnishings and decor simply stop you thinking about the outside world and just relax

The food can be relaxed such as club sandwiches or burgers if you just wanted to slob around in the bar. Equally you can enjoy fine dining in the restaurant with fillet of beef of blackberry souffle.

The staff are diligent but discrete and always go the extra yard to help.

It's not cheap but it's worth it.

I had high expectations of Cowley Manor and unfortunately was left feeling short changed. As we left the hotel for the final time, my husband and I both said goodbye to the receptionists as we left the building, neither of them responded and we remarked to each other that this kind of summed up our stay. The positives:

- the grounds are beautiful. A little wild, but beautiful nevertheless;
- our room was good and spacious.

The disappointing bits:

- the food was mediocre. Is it really possible to get mozarella and tomato wrong? Yes if you use poor ingredients.
- staff service was very hit and miss. Some very poor service but generally "good".

It all felt a bit like a hotel that's going downhill. I'm afraid we won't be returning.

We booked to stay at Cowley Manor for the last two nights of our honeymoon, after it was recommended to us. We had a massive flood from the bathroom the evening of our second night and had to be moved to a different hotel at 8pm because Cowley was full. They asked us to pay half the night rate at the hotel they moved us to, which we weren't very happy about. We wrote to complain, since it really tainted the last night of our honeymoon - evacuating and ruining our last evening. We eventually had a response after a follow up e-mail. We had an apology, but not really enough to make up for the experience. We expected a lot more from a luxury hotel.

We booked our stay through the hotel's own website taking advantage of their last minute late booking prices. However we were told that the "good" rooms had all gone and only "better" more expensive rooms were available so we were surprised to find on arrival that the hotel was very quiet and nowhere near full. Our main complaint was with housekeeping. The bottles of water in the room were not replaced daily as this was not" hotel policy". Considering the hotel is very generous with its toiletries etc we found this rather strange. This is not a cheap hotel (even with it's late booking prices) and replacing bottles of water in an establishment like this should be the norm .Also the duvets on the single beds were not wide enough with no overlap. However the food was excellent. The breakfasts were of a very high quality and the restaurant staff ,as indeed all the staff, were very efficient and friendly This is a lovely hotel in beautiful grounds. The swimming pools are excellent and we had a relaxing break.

Room Tip: Beware of room 11 in the stable block. It is over the shop and you can hear the music from the shop...

Very good hotel, restaurant, bar, concierge services are amazing, regardless I can't the same about the housekeeping and room cleaning, staff won't replace simple things like toothpaste or shaving set and we've stayed in for 5 days, not to mention spyders (armless) and their nets speeded by the room

Absolutely gorgeous grounds with plenty to do. The 3 storey outhouse we stayed in was lovely and the mini bar had bespoke entries to it and quirky tastes.
The food throughout the day was fresh, exciting and tasty.
Breakfast was superb & catered for everyone.
Somewhere to go if you want to relax, wine & dine, explore and then retreat.
The spa was OK, was quite noisy and chaotic in the day however the staff acknowledged this without us even saying anything and offered us a complimentary treatment. The spa is for guests and members and there were quite a lot of children around. We went for a a quiet get away from London so was a little busier than we expected but all the same, very good experience and would visit again. Total spend £600 for 2 nights inc food but definitely well worth it.
