“Quaint Hotel in lovely Cotswolds village”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2013

Had 2 night stay with other members of family coming from different parts of the country. Rooms small and quirky with uneven floors and open beams. Staff very friendly and an excellent cooked breakfast. Village of Blockley very picturesque with stream running through middle, beautiful manicured gardens and immaculate limestone houses. Village shop and post office run by local villagers. Great evening meal at nearby Grand Western pub. Blockley village very convenient for walking tours in beautiful Cotswolds and near to various N T sites such as Chedworth Roman Villa and Snowshill Manor and gardens. Lots of newborn lambs with their mothers. Snowshill lavender gardens should be a picture later in the year.

Room Tip: All the rooms are small but need to ask if you require bath as well as shower.

Just got back home after a two night stay with my family (2 rooms). Booked it via Groupon and was not sure what to expect but had a good stay.

Staff very pleasant and very helpful.

Hotel and location good.

Rooms were satisfactory, but a bit tired, our room the carpet could do with a clean or replacement.

We had a 3 course evening meal and breakfasts included and these were both very good.

Would stay again if returning to the area.

Thanks.

Room Tip: Ear plugs needed for the hourly village clock chimes.

Beautiful area, but the hotel was a let down. The staff were really pleasant and helpful. The beer was good, as was the breakfast. The room was average. The food in the restaurant was very poor, my local pub serves much better food. The choice of food was very limited and not exciting at all. The bar area dispite an open fire was not cosy and the seating was not comfortable. We would not recommend a visit to the crown.

Room Tip: Don't go

I found this hotel in the Cotswolds very pleasant and in a wonderful location. The double room, whilst being small, was warm and comfortable. Stayed 3 nights and had breakfast each day. I slept and ate well.
The majority of the hotel is housed in a 16th century building which as you would suspect has some steep and narrow stairs which will not suit everyone. Narrow entrance and step hill to the car-park could also challange the inexperienced driver.
Overall, I found the hotel good value for money with excellent staff and am happy to recommend.

We had a large room with a lounge area on a lower level (as well as a four poster bed) which was particularly charming. The staff were also polite, friendly and accommodating.
We had a good couple of breakfasts but did unfortunately find the bar food to be pretty average (book early as the restaurant fills up in the evening).
Decor was a little tired - which wouldn't otherwise bother me except when it affects the quality of our stay. We were disappointed that the four poster bed was a small double (despite upgrading our room) - bed was also a bit lumpy with some uneven springs.
Overall couldn't fault the cleanliness but again, it was a shame to see dark stains on shower ceiling and between tiles which I guess were mould or damp? No bath tub unfortunately but that's not a deal breaker.
Blockley is a charming village and I would recommend The Crown to other travellers - it is a pleasant place to stay, just a shame they haven't gone the extra mile to make it a really excellent hotel.

Room Tip: Upgrade for a larger room with four poster bed (we stayed in #21)

My husband and I returned yesterday from our two night stay at The Crown. This is our second visit. It's FAB. Lovely clean room and crisp white bedding, needed an extra pillow each and, as usual, nothing is too much trouble for them. We had fantastic breakfasts. Had evening meals in the restaurant both nights and the food was very good and hot. Service is excellent. The staff are friendly and informative. Congratulations to the manager and staff and thank you for an enjoyable stay again. Look forward to seeing you all again. Avril & Phil Matthews

RECOMMEND FOR MEALS. We dined in the dining room with a reservation. A very tasty dinner with him eating lamb and an ale stew for myself. Broccoli and Stilton cheese soup was delicious. Service was friendly and polished and there were even white gloves worn by staff! Price was reasonable and the welcoming fire in the area adjacent the dining room was warm and comforting. We enjoyed our meal at the Crown and left very happy. RECOMMENDED.
