“one night stay”

staff very friendly check in quick and efficient, room comfortable. No 9 window faced onto high street, traffic noise could be a problem if you are not used to it, ( listed building ) no double glazing here. could do with a power point near the dressing table, room lighting a bit dim but bearable. only minor points but all in all a pleasant stay.

We stayed at the for one night as we were in Essex for a birthday party. The staff were very friendly, the room was very good but the only gripes were that the loo roll was cheap and nasty, the shower was rather feeble and the towel rail wasn`t on. The food at breakfast was good but the staff were a bit disorganised due to a large wedding party so the tables weren`t set properly in the dining room we were in. To be fair though the lady soon brought us the relevant cutlery. All in all good value for money and we shall probably stay again when we come down to Witham.

Room Tip: Despite being in a room at the front of the hotel, we didn`t find there was too much traffic noise.

We stayed for two nights as a couple but also as part of a group of friends for a wedding (not held here). This meant we arrived before the 2pm check-in but this did not prove a problem and infact we were given a complimentary pot of tea while we waited for our room to be cleaned.

It is well worth noting that the rooms were really hot. Although we visited in August, it was not a particularly hot day and we had to sleep with the windows open (onto the street). Our friends all commented that their rooms were hot but they have been provided with (noisy) fans.

There was a good range at breakfast -made to order and there is a lovely little pub courtyard where we all enjoyed a relaxed game of Jenga!

All in all, for the price, good value.

We stayed one night over a Saturday and thank goodness it was only one night. Our room was above the function room which was in full swing till the early hours. The room was very small indeed and the bathroom floor could have done with a good clean. The general state of the room was tidy but does need refurbishing. They seemed to be short of staff and you need a security key to get from the stairs into the bedroom corridoor !!. We only had breakfast and that was not much better than the room, ok it was hot and fresh but when you say "no beans" you do not expect to get a dollop of beans with your breakfast. Part of the breakfast is self service which is fine if there was a good selection which there wassent. You order the cooked breakfast and wait which means it is freash and hot, thats ok.The American breakfast is nothing like an American breakfast I have had anywhere else and really is part of an English breakfast with a couple of soggy pancakes thrown on top. It was £60.00 for the night and it would have been better value to find a Premier Inn and pay extra for breakfast somewhere local.Never again unless its poring down and I cannot find a clean box to sleep under..

i stayed at the White Hart Hotel in witham for 1 night in july 2010, as soon as i walked in i was welcomed and dealt with very fast and efficently.Within 5 minutes of arriving i was in a nice clean and fresh room. I had dinner and a few drinks for the night that came to under £10!!. I personally found the drinks were priced fantastic!! I went upstairs at around 10'o'clock, the 2 girls behind the bar said goodnight to me it felt like i was at home!! My bed sheet were clean and fresh and there was not a spec of dust anywhere, fantastic stay, i am in essex again in september. I will be staying again without a doubt!

I stayed here recently on the recommendation of friends in Witham. All I can stay is that they obviously hadn't stayed the White Hart themselves (and I know they are now very embarrassed for recommending it!)

The room was adequate (just) and all seemed fine until the night. At pub chuck out time the guy in the next room crawled back and turned on his TV. The paper thin walls were not forgiving and despite a few 'friendly' knocks on the wall nothing changed. Eventually he did stumble over around and the TV was turned off. Unfortunately a guy a few doors up started snoring (which we heard in high definition too).

If you want the effect of sleeping in a barn with all the other animals this is the place! A truly terrible nights sleep (and I've stayed at hundreds of hostels)!!!

The story continues...

I can only assume by their glum faces that the waitresses were in the room the other side of the men from the night before. They didn't move a muscle when we came down stairs for our breakfast.

Now I'm not that picky (I don't think anyway), but for £60 in Witham I'm expecting at least some level of service. The White Hart fails on every count!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Dave and Tracy extend a warm welcome and invite you to join them in this relaxed, warm and friendly Hotel in the heart of Essex. We bought the hotel in 2006 and have worked hard to develop a hotel where you can eat, drink and feel part of the family in a traditional English Pub setting. We have listened to what our customers want, and have a comprehensive menu with British Dishes, selected specials and we source wherever possible local ingredients. You can also enjoy our infamous carvery every Sunday, guaranteed to fill even the heartiest appetite! A fine range of ales and superb quality wines (every last one tasted by Dave - guaranteed!) are available, an excellent selection of spirits and liqueurs and to round off your evening, we have one of the best liqueur coffee menu’s for miles! We have original beams, open fireplaces, and oak floors that go creak in the night. Our hotel rooms are sympathetically refurbished, spotlessly clean and in keeping with tradition we even offer uneven and wonky 13th Century walls! All rooms have ensuite facilities, TV, tea & coffee and iron & ironing board. We can offer our function facilities for meetings, birthdays (21 and above only), anniversaries or just family get togethers, whatever the occasion we can help!We have a comfortable BBQ and Patio Garden at the rear of the premises which can be enjoyed weather permitting, and car parking is available to the rear of the hotel. ... more   less
