Muthu Westcliff Hotel

I stayed at the Westcliffe from Monday until Friday and it was not what I was expecting. The staff on the whole are nice and friendly but the hotel itself has seen better days. The Tuxedo Bar is a throw back from the 1980s with the tasteless decor, the prices are what I would expect to pay in a top city hotel, £6.45 for a 250ml of wine is excessive. The room whilst small was clean but there was no information book detailing meal times and local attractions as most hotels have. The bathroom and shower were good and the maid service was also good.
On two occasions I came back from work and couldn't get parked, there is a Theatre nearby and the goers fill every available slot and just to make matters worse the traffic wardens decide to patrol the area on these occasions.
Not a good experience so won't be returning.

Room Tip: Choose one with it's own parking spot!

My recent stay was to attend my daughter's friend's wedding. A lovely wedding but the soup on the wedding menu said "Leek & Potato", could only taste celery, which is quite a strong taste that it overpowered the leek. Everyone on the table agreed that they could not taste the leek.

My room was a disappointment as I was paying for a double (recently lost my husband) and it was much smaller than my daughter & son-in-law's for the same price. I did not mind having a smaller room but surely a smaller room should cost less than a bigger room. Could hear noises from another room. The mugs looked clean until I ran my thumb around the outside rim and felt rough crumbs and when I looked closely at the dark exterior and there was and it was smeared from rim to base.

Room Tip: If you are infirm make sure when booking that you get a room on a floor that the lift will go to, be...

The room and commodities were what you would expect from a 3*. The location is great; just 15 minute walk from the pier with plenty of parking around the residential areas. Reception staff were very helpful and the bar prices are reasonable.

My only gripe is that the room was well below par on cleanliness. There were hairs in the bath and bed, windowsills dusty, TV remote sticky and the most god awful, disgusting toilet brush! I would not have stayed for more than one night. and would certainly not be tempted to stay again.

Nice hotel just 10 minutes from town centre with a Good view of theThames estuary. The breakfast is both good quality and plentiful. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. The bedrooms are very tidy, modern and clean with good room service each day. My only problem was the occasional lack of car parking nearby. Due to it being so close to the town centre, it looks as if the locals park here because it is free and work in town.

Room Tip: Pay a bit extra and have a room with a sea view. Also, there is more car parking nearby after 5 pm o...

Although our room was quite small it was well equipped, cosy and quiet. The hotel itself is situated high up overlooking the water and at a perfect distance from the noise and the bustle of the town which is, quite frankly, awful! However, if you stay on the front and enjoy all that is good about the British seaside you won't be disappointed. Staff at The Westcliff were very friendly and helpful and we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. We particularly enjoyed the walk from the hotel towards the town centre along by the public gardens.

Just got back from a weekend stay at The Westcliff Hotel,
Amazing location over looking the sea front & cliff gardens, plenty of street parking out side the hotel.
The reception staff were very friendly & helpfull.
We were a party of 7 friends & we all had a great stay, all our room were on different floors & a variety of sizes & styles (Room 401 was bigger & more modern than room 402 next door)
it will be nice when all the rooms are re-decorated, bathrooms were clean & fersh but alittle small, comfy beds & a very nice tea/coffee tray with lots of extras (shame there wasn't locally sourced products from the Southend area).
With a wedding being held at the hotel on the Saturday night, it very busy in the reception, lounge & bar area but this wasn't a problem, just added a buzz in the usual quiet hotel atmosphere.
A big thank you to the night porter who made us 2 delicious sandwiches when we came back to the hotel very late after a night out in town.
My friends & I all had a great stay at The Westcliff, plus with it's amazing location & price we will all be back again very soon.
Special note: I left my ipad behind in our room & thanks to the hotel contacting me straight away it was safley returned to me by post first thing by the next morning - thank you.

Room Tip: Room 401 - great view, modern decor & a little lager than 402

This hotel needs TLC, it has recently changed hands and is now used mainly for contractors, the standard has dropped, bed was uncomfortable and the pillows were thin. But the one redeeming factor is the lady who cooks the breakfast, she is a gem and cooks a mean brekky.
