This Marriott is a low rise (2 story) property which , amazingly, does not have an elevator/lift to the second floor. It's located a few miles from Stanstead, London's third airport after Heathrow and Gatwick. It's just off the M-25 motorway that circles London, at about 1 o'clock on the circle. Apart from the peculiar absence of a lift, it's a typical Marriott with nicely furnished rooms and friendly service. There's one disadvantage if you want to get into London - it's a 15 minute, 10 pound taxi ride to the nearest train station at Waltham Cross for service into London, and from there it's 30 minutes by train to Liverpool St. Station. During the daytime trains run every 12 - 15 minutes. You can also go to the Underground station at Loughton on the Central line - a bit slower than the train but with service at five minute intervals. Travel time to Heathrow or Gatwick is 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 hours by train, then Underground, then express train. It would be either faster or a lot slower by car, depending on the time of day.

The person who checked me in was training. She was pretty inept and completely unable to think on her feet, but apart from that anomaly the staff was helpful and friendly. Prices at the lobby bar for a cup of coffee are outrageously high even by UK standards unless you're a Marriott Gold member in which case you get a couple of non-alcoholic drinks free of charge. In contrast, the room rates are reasonable. I paid UK 102 a night including VAT (a "senior" rate on a Thursday night).

Summing up, nice hotel if you don't plan on trekking into London.

Room Tip: There's no elevator/lift in this two story building. If you have a lot of luggage, get a room o...

Moved to this hotel on day 4 of 7 day stay in another inferior hotel. Knew this hotel well from work conferences and it lived to to expectations. All staff most solicitous, rooms clean and comfortable and able to chill out. Now live abroad and will be popping back to see relatives and friends regularly and will stay here again. Forget the cheaper hotels, you get what you pay for!

The first impression of this hotel when you enter the foyer is that it is tired and dull - the furniture stained and/or faded. One expects a certain standard from a Marriott and this hotel felt short of that standard. The staff in reception and at breakfast were good and efficient; the rest, behind the bar (drinks very expensive), in the bar cafe (poor service and menu), and in the spa (couldn't care less attitude that the Hydo pool was closed) were not the usual Marriott high standard of customer service. We had to insist on eating in the restaurant at lunchtime when we arrived after a long drive - they wanted us to eat in the car cafe which had low seats and high tables. Begrudgingly we were given a poor menu and the food matched the menu: poor. The rooms are reasonably furnished and decorated and clean. But I would not return there. It represents poor value.

Room Tip: If you wish to have the window open for ventillation make sure you dont choose a room on the M25 sid...

My whole family stayed at this hotel 0n the 29th/30th September 2011, as part of the celebration of my daughters wedding.

The staff went out of their way to make our stay a pleasure. My wife had a meal in the restaurant and said it was very good.

Being a very special family occasion the manager went out of her way to ensure everything was perfect for us.

The rooms are very clean, the beds are excellant as with other Marriotts we have stayed at.

Even the night staff were very friendly. Nothing was too much trouble.

We would definately recommend this hotel particularly if your wedding is at nearby Gaynes Park which currently has no accomodation of its own. They are very close to one another. A short 10 - 15 minute cab ride away. Ideal location for guests as access to the M25 motorway is very close. No motorway noise can be heard at the hotel.

This hotel is also favoured by football teams when playing in London.

All in all an excellant 2 nights accomodation.

This Marriott is well worth the cost involved. Staff are unfailingly pleasant and friendly and the meals were of an excellent standard albeit a little over-priced. My executive room was comfortable and the bed had a mattress overlay of some kind which made it a more relaxing night than is often the case in hotels in England. Can certainly recommend this hotel.

Excellent hotel in good location. We met up for a family birthday,a busy hotel but the staff went out of their way to accomodate all our requests including dinner at a time we wanted -when they were feeding 180 in a suite and there were other large parties in the restaurant that evening. All staff were friendly and helpful.A nice pool and very clean nice rooms.
