just by the title you have to expect guns and munitions etc,
As Waltham Abbey is the last resting place for King Harold (stop throwing those arrows at me! your have someone's eye out fame) he is actually buried 1/2 a km in the town Abbey,
Gun powder mills is all about the factory that stood there as is the gun powder park near by where they tested bombs and such like.COME TO THE ABBEY THERES LOTS TO DO AND SEE AND IF YOU DO STOP OFF @TONYS PIE AND MASH SHOP FOR SOME GOOD FOOD never know you stand a good chance of seeing David Beckham and his kids in the pie+mash shop he is here a lot.

I had no idea what to expect as I had not heard of it before. The whole island is so full of wonder and we took a 40 minute trip around with a guide to visit the hidden places, large area to have a picnic so took on more energy, ideal for families with children, mad professor blowing things up and you can make your own rocket, the story of gunpowder on film gave us a good historical background before we set of to explore.

This is a good attraction if you haven't been before but it could do with some more interesting features to entice visitors to come back again and again. It is a great idea but has not quite made the grade they envisaged at first. I think it is for these reasons it is only open a week-ends in high season and school holidays. Quite good catering and the tractor tour is also very good.

We ventured down to the royal gunpowder mills as we heard they were holding a classic car show. My husband and I both love browsing round really old and interesting specimens and we were not disappointed! A really nice touch was the drive-pasts they all did so we could hear then all in action too!
Then it was time for a snack from the nice clean little cafe and a tour on the land train- a very funny yet informative trek round the site.
A must-do day out for all the family!

What a fantastic place to visit with 2 boys aged 8 and 15. Continuous activities, exhibitions, demo's from when we got there until we left. Everything so reasonably priced compared to other "themed" days out. All staff & volunteers so friendly, helpful and ready to chat about the exhibits, etc. They really couldn't do enough for us. We all thoroughly enjoyed our day and could not fault a thing with the place or people!!! This is a charity funded place & very impressed with the volunteer's dedication with restoration and knowledge. This is a hiddem gem and very good value for money without the overpriced "add on's" that you'll find elsewhere.
