We went as a family of 4 in January 2013. Our youngest is under 3 so gets free entry and we paid £25. I think you can get an internet discount too. Very friendly and enthusiastic staff, all ready to help and full of smiles. Our visit was slightly impeeded by a birthday party but we could easily overtake them and come back later. Lots of lovely fish of various sizes but much better displayed than in a pet shop (as a previous reviewer said you can get the same experience at one). Also, a walk-through tunnel under the big tank with lots of amazing fish and sharks in it. Don't go expecting the kind of thing you see on TV from America - nothing is bigger than about 3 or 4 ft but they are very well displayed and there's lots for little ones to see. As an adult I was enthralled too! Food in the cafe was very cheap but you can see why when it arrives! If you get a year's pass it gets you 20% off in the shop and cafe I think. There's a pay and display carpark right outside and it's next to the beach so you can base yourself there, go for a (gravelly) beach walk, stroll past the fun fountains over to the little train which takes you along the enormous pier out into the sea. Overall, we had an unexpectedly great time in Southend!

I have now taken my 7 month old daughter several times on an annual pass, well worth the money. She loves watching all the fish! There are lots of different tanks - local fish/sea creatures as well as the marine fish you would expect. They all look well maintained, with healthy fish. There are also some reptiles, frogs and spiders. There are talks on each day, I have found the staff to be very enthusiastic and happy to tell you all about the fish (including their names!) anytime. The giant tank with the underwater tunnel through it is great. There is a baby changing room separate from the toilets (so good for dad's too) which has a little cartoon video you can play to entertain your child whilst they are on the changing table. Round the corner in this room there is also a nursing chair which is nice for discreet/more peaceful breast feeding. It takes me a good hour to go round with her. If an older child enjoys looking at the tanks, I guess it would take a little longer. There is also a cafe (with a childrens play area upstairs but haven't been up there) which is spacious and does the job.

Visited Southend Sealife Adventure today as part of a day out with my 3 grandsons. Had 3 complimentary tickets from their visit to Santa at Adventure Island before Christmas, so only had to pay for 2 of us! We all thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The staff were very friendly and informative. Rock pool talk was excellent with hands on experiences with starfish and sea urchins. It was made very interesting and fun for the boys. We all learned things too from the quizzes on the way round. Exhibits were well presented and easy for all ages to see. A great way to spend a couple of hours as you can revisit on the same day. We all enjoyed it.

Don't understand any of the reviews that say there isn't much to see. It's not huge but everything is brilliantly displayed in an interesting natural environment. Staffer met were all exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable.
