“meal out with friends - fine dining”
Reviewed December 14, 2012

I had not been to the Roslin since all its refurbishments and was really surprised at the stunning decor and ambiance of the hotel and restaurant. we had a meal out with friends with their two course menu £15. which although only three choices of starter, main and dessert, were varied and enough choice for the price. the service was second to none, what you expect from a high class restaurant, taking your coats, pulling out your chairs and how wonderful to have the knapkin placed in your lap. the staff were very pleasant but unintrusive. 7 friends dined that evening and we all really enjoyed our food, service was prompt and presented beautifully. all enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant which was buzzing. I for one shall certainly visit again, maybe for afternoon tea or their friday evening special fish menu.

The Hotel and restaurant is very nice, modern and comfortable. The tea and coffee was nice. When we received our sandwiches and cakes we were disappointed. The sandwich filling was nice but the bread was slightly dried out. We were mainly very disappointed with the cakes. We were expecting a selection of large cakes, meringues or madeleines and instead received a mini piece of dried out Christmas cake, a dried out mini mince pie, a mini cup cake and one hard inedible meringue snowman to share. When we booked we were told the price was £12.50 per person and when we received the bill it was £16.50 per person including service charge. We were told this was because it was near to Christmas.

My partner and i visited Southend for a short weekend and we were recommended The Roslin by a friend. When we arrived we were greeted by friendly, helpful staff and our room was just beautiful! We had a lovely view of the seafront from our room, and to top it off, breakfast was served in the conservatory area at the front of the hotel overlooking the seafront. All in all we had a fantastic time and will definitely be returning soon! Thankyou to all the staff.

“Great improvement!”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

I have reviewed the Roslin before and found the service to be lacking, but this time not only the service was excellent but the meal was wonderful. What a shame some others have experienced different. We must have been lucky to have the best waiter and the best chef!

We treated my Aunt and Uncle and they were most impressed and that made it all worth while

However, standards should never differ; I don't know why our experience was so different from other reviews (or our previous visit) but the Roslin should make sure everyones dining experience is as good, as it is not cheap.Reputation is everything but based on my last dining (Sunday lunch) I thought they did really well enjoyed every minute and every morsal. (That cranberry sauce is the best)!!

[Our waiter was a French guy... late 30s?? Did not get his name but thats how it's done]!!
