“Perfect family location, tasty food well prepared but sadly spoiled by shoddy service”
Reviewed May 7, 2012 via mobile

Arrived and shown to reserved table.
Waited for 35mins before anyone even approached to take drinks order. Had 4 hungry kids who were becoming more and more irritable. Waited for another 20mins to bring the ordered soda drinks and a further 40mins before our order arrived. Child's simple bacon/cheese panini was forgotten and waited another 15 minutes for this to arrive. Plates, bottles and empty cans weren't cleared once. I ordered a burger with extra chargeable toppings but it arrived without a bun??? Apparently costs extra?? Weird. The food however was of a very high standard, very tasty and wholesome. Management is not good....with the manager breaking eye contact in order to avoid our disillusioned faces. The chefs run around the kitchen non-stop as do the waitresses. They really should consider employing more staff to cater for the demands. I'm really easy going and never bother about reviews and always tolerate some aspects of poor performance, but felt that something needed to be said. Will go back someday to look for improvement as the potential here as a good family venue is great.

PS. Also thought having to pay for 4 kids to see the on site farm animals after having paid for a group of 8 people to eat lunch is a bit of a cheek.

“A lot to learn about customer service.”
Reviewed May 7, 2012 via mobile

Having been here a couple of times before & enjoyed the food I was looking forward to bringing my husband here. This place is out of our way, so a longer drive than normal. When we arrived at the restaurant that was pretty busy we were told, " sorry we can't serve you, sorry" No explanation, just that. Shocked & annoyed we just left and won't be going back any time. Hope they take this on board and improve. Best of luck if you visit.

“Good honest food but slow”
Reviewed April 28, 2012

The restaurant at Ashlyns is situated next to an organic farm shop that provides locally sourced meat, fruit and vegetables. Most the ingredients used within the restaurant are available to purchase in the shop. The breakfast menu is short – basically you can have a cooked breakfast, toast or pain au chocolat. When I visited with Miranda the restaurant was fairly busy and there only seemed to be one waiter working. After about 10 minutes, Jack (our waiter) came to take our order. I requested an Ashlyns English Breakfast and Miranda ordered the vegetarian option.

Whilst waiting for our food we observed our fellow diners, the majority of customers seemed to be mothers with children. The food came from the kitchen slowly but when we finally did receive our breakfast we decided it was worth the wait.

The “Black rock eggs” were large with golden yolks, the bacon was crispy and plentiful and the sausages were plump and juicy. There was also black pudding, fried mushrooms, grilled tomato and toast. Mirandas’ breakfast was the same but obviously the pork sausages were replaced by vegetarian sausages – which she said were also very tasty. The price of a full English is reasonable - £7.95, and additional items can be added at a cost.

“Our weekly rendevous”
Reviewed April 12, 2012

We use this restaurant at least once a week to meet up as a family. The menu is short but then you do know you are getting fresh food and not something that has been prepared too far in advance. Service can be slow but we have learnt that Jack is the waiter to have - not only is he 'fleet of foot' but he can remember orders without writing down and also remembers every week that our daughter requests extra butter. “Good real food”
Reviewed March 13, 2012

Not an enormous menu, but always plenty to try out. You can watch your food being prepared if you wish - so they have to be good.
The breakfasts can be enormous, the lunches even more so.
All the food is very hearty, and good for you as this place is Organic.
