The Bell is just about as good as it gets. From the friendly and warm welcome from the landlord John, to the fantastic food, great rooms, oldy worldy atmosphere and friendly service. What is more fantastic still is that it is pulled off with no pretention and without a hefty price tag. John keeps a mean bar well stocked with local ales and a wide selection of wines/ports. These are well understood by his team and Ithe recomendations made were fantastic. Food was exquisite. For those not so peckish I was pleased to see that the same care and attention was put into the well priced bar meal. What a find!

Family owned and run and that reflects the friendly welcome and service, add this to the ye olde beams and those Americans won't believe anything can be that old ! Gee I can hear them !

Its their perfect image of little old England and it should be yours wherever you come from !

The Food/menu in this atmospheric pub is amazing and we defy food critic Michael Winner not to agree ! Winner maybe pretentious but dining here is not, its just casual and friendly and we cannot praise sufficiently every bodies input.

The Rooms all have the very tasteful influence of the proprietor Christine and husband John ensures the cellar, draft beers and wine list are top notch, all aided by their lovely family and next generation .....Family businesses need supporting when they are this good !

This little inn is such a lovely little find......amazing food, great cosy rooms, fab wine and great service from the manager Jo, landlord and landlady John and Christine and their team. We are lucky enough to stay here during the week while working nearby and it really is a pleasure to stay there. The rooms are cosy, clean and we have never had any issues at all while staying there for the past couple of months. The food is incredible.....Venison Cottage Pie, Ham Hock Terrine, Salmon Scotch Eggs and with Jo's recommendations for wine, it's all good. The locals are very friendly too. Would highly recommend, although book early as it gets well booked in advance.

Room Tip: Hill House rooms are a little smaller and Room 7 has a fab shower.

If you are looking for a superb characterful pub, with exceptional food, excellent beer and wine, look no further. This is the place.

We booked dinner and overnight stay here to break up our journey from home in the Yorkshire Dales to the south coast and we are glad that we did. Not only are the standards very high, everything is also extremely good value. A double room for £60.00! Many thanks, we will stay again and recommend to friends.

Have stayed at this hotel on several occasions, rooms have been refurbished to a quality standard and the pub serves excellent food and real ale.
