Description: The Green Man at Lindsell is celebrating its second succesful year under the present management and we are pleased to welcome both old and new customers. In our cosy bar we have retained the buildings original features and given it a fresh contemporary edge where we welcome both drinkers and diners alike and our tables are available on a 'first come' basis offering an extensive range of dishes from salads, sharing planks to wholesome pub classics. Our 70 seat a la carte restaurant to the rear of the property is also not to be missed, with crisp white linen, delicious food and an extensive wine list making it the ideal place for lunch, dinner or any other special occasions. Bookings are welcome and recommended. We also have a large terrace area and extensive garden to dine alfresco or enjoy a champagne cocktail. We welcome families and have plenty of space for children to play. So come on in and take a look around and we hope to see you soon!

“Be Careful They Don't Overcharge!”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

I was there for Sunday lunch for the first hour or so the restaurant was empty, but the service was appalling! Slow and not very diligent at all, my starter was completely forgotten, not until the other persons starter plate was being cleared did I enquire after mine. Apologies ensued as did my starter! The food is excellent, no complaint whatever for taste, quality and presentation except my roast pigeon breast consisted of only 2 slices from the breast and NOT the breast. Beware the ice cream is expensive and watery and also beware of being overcharged, which we were. That we will return is positive in thr hope the service and bill has improved

“Great food: we'll be back”
Reviewed April 10, 2013

We visited the Green Man with friends who live in the area, on their recommendation on a Thursday night. They have got the atmosphere pitched just right, an upmarket gastro-pub: tables are well spaced so that you are not on top of each other and the overall ambience works well.

The menu was varied: one criticism would be that there were just a few too many options. The food was very good: well prepared, just the right amount.

Service was good: friendly and reasonably paced between courses.

Overall the price was reasonable and about what we would have expected. Would we go back?: definitely.

“Very pleasing lunch on the off chance”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

Made unplanned stop to The Green Man for a quick lunch and were very impressed. Good selection of very tempting dishes ... Prompt service and just the right amount of attentiveness.

The food was superb lovely scallops, fish and chips lovely crispy batter, GREAT chips with smashing mushy peas and tartare sauce. But the star of the show was the Pork dish.. Presentation and flavour way up there..

Very good value 1 starter 2 mains and a bottle of nice wine 53 pounds ....

Constructive criticism ... First thing we were told by the waiter when we sat down was what was not available from the menu.. When in fact it had already been removed from the menu.. Just could of been handled in a less negative way .. Obviously we needed to know it was not available, also on a neighbouring table a certain soft drink was not available again .. Just told we have run out, no suggested replacement made .. Very tiny points and meant in a constructive way.

We will definately be returning

“Lovely grub!”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

By far the best restaurant I have eaten in within a reasonable distance of our home in Harlow for a long time. Well presented, yummy grub and some very nice touches. The scallops were out of this world! Would have given five stars, but slight muddles over the presentation of the bill - and perhaps some of the pudds, although delicious, could have been a bit more original. But overall a fantastic restaurant!

“Adequate Sunday Lunch”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

Sadly, this restaurant has now fallen below the standards set by the previous owners. The absence of table cloths, along with the presence of food and drink stains to the upholstery of the chairs, are details which will unfortunately always detract from the experience of dining out. In view of the fact that the restaurant was not overly busy on a Sunday afternoon we found the service to be unacceptably slow, but certainly courteous and sufficiently polite.
The food itself was adequate and above average, but not exceptional at the prices charged. The vegetables accompanying the main courses were unfortunately piled onto our dinner plates as opposed to being offered on a side serving, again a detail of presentation which enhanced the previous restauranteur's image and reputation. Very unfortunately, the green vegetables accompanying the roast dinners had been completely spoiled through over-cooking and were no more than flavourless boiled foliage obstructing the otherwise acceptable appearance and flavour of the main courses. We would certainly not damn this restaurant out of hand since some thought, imagination and effort had clearly gone into the food offered. However, we feel that far closer attention needs to be paid to the detail and presentation of the dining experience for the current owners to be capable of achieving the heights set by the former proprietors.

Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to review The Green Man, we really appreciate your comments. I am sorry that your experience fell short of your expectations.
With regard to the tablecloths, we made a decision to make the restaurant side look less formal and also the cost of having table cloths laundered is very expensive and a cost that would pass onto the customer. We have had great feedback on the new look but we're never going to please everyone and welcome the thoughts of our customers. With regard to the stained seat we are very surprised as they are cleaned/wiped down before every service.
If you do visit us again I hope you will find the service speed to be good as we usually set as a minimum standard. We do not like to rush our guests but if you are ever in a hurry then please let the front of house manager know - everything is cooked fresh to order but we will certainly endeavour to bring your food out to fit your timescale.
We do pride ourselves on serving a hearty Sunday roast to which we have had great reviews and a big following on a Sunday when we serve an average of 70 covers.
Sorry you feel your vegetables were overcooked - that's very surprising as everything is checked by me at the pass before it goes out but again everyone has different tastes and we do welcome your feedback during the meal.
When we took over the restaurant we made a decision to turn The Green Man back into a great pub with excellent food as opposed to a destination specialist (fish) restaurant which was obviously not working too well hence the previous owners having to sell. We know we cannot please everyone but we are receiving fantastic feedback through our comment cards and on sites such as this.
We're coming into our 6th month of operating and have great new menus coming up and events so we really hope to welcome you back again.
Thanks to everyone who has visited us and taken time out to review us and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
