Description: This historic coaching inn dates back to the 1700s and has been a traveller's retreat and local favourite ever since. The Saracen's Head was newly refurbished in May 2012 and is now thriving as the heart of Great Dunmow. With cozy spots near the open fire to relax and enjoy a pint and a beautiful restaurant to enjoy fresh cooked food with friends The Saracens is the perfect place to come for all occasions. Why not spend the night in one of our 31 en-suite bedrooms and wake up to our full English breakfast.

I did not make it in to this establishment for either food or drink. The posted menu seemed pricey and other options were available. The bar and restaurant are clean and the atmosphere is pleasant. The location is perfect for strolling the streets and wandering to the duck pond for a quiet afternoon, weather permitting. Room rates seemed reasonable when I was looking for a booking. I didn't stay because friends offered to put me up instead.

We were both a bit underwhelmed with the food considering the fine dining prices. The restaurant was not busy at all however they had run out of what we ordered and what we did order took a long time to arrive.
I had duck breast. It was overcooked and tough with no pink whatsoever. At £17.50 a main course you expect food to be cooked competently. I can overcook duck at home!
My partners food (can't even remember what it was) and the rest of my food was perfectly acceptable to eat BUT not by any stretch worthy of the price.

Average food and service at a high end price.

It was very good, staff very attentive, food excellent. Expensive though, and nio extras like amuse Boucher or mothers gift which you would expect for the price. Also most disappointed there were no kids meals, roast dinner for a two year old at half price was still £9 and he didn't eat much of it.
