Stansted Skyline Hotel
Ranked #8 of 8 Great Dunmow B&B and Inns
Reviewed June 14, 2013

I booked this hotel as it looked tidy in its photos and cost was very reasonable - biggest mistake i have ever made.
Iv worked away from home in various hotels and this is the worse iv ever stayed in, no staff on reception and the guy that did eventually turn up could hardly speak English and couldn take my cash quick enough.
I stayed in room 8, it had 2 small ceiling lights that was dim, toilet was stinking dirty and in the 6 nights nobody went into my room, i even had to empty the bin and buy Toilet roll as there was nodody around to complain to. Towels was grey and in the 6 nights i slept on top of the bed as it was crawling. There is no wifi at this hotel and if any EHO's read this review please pay them a visit as they are not the cleanest of people.

THIS IS NOT A HOTEL TO STAY AT AND AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS.

If you want to stay in this area, there is a Travel lodge 2min away thats cheaper and spotless and free wifi in its lovely well stocked cafe.

The best thing this hotel can do is lock it doors and leave the rats stay there, if they can put up with the noise and stench.

Room Tip: Stay at the Travel lodge rooms - No rooms at this hotel are good

Was lucky enough to get room 4a haha over the kitchens. It stank of cooking spices was noisy until well after midnight. Shower head fell off the wall and ceiling spot light had been stuck in with cellotape which had melted and began to smoke when turned on. This place should be closed down. If rating stars had a zero that's what I wouldhave scored it

We booked this as a last minute deal and wished we hadn't bothered. The hotel is part of a large Indian restaurant and you have to walk int the restaurant to get to reception. There was nobody at the desk and we had to ring for someone to come and that didnt happen for quite a few minutes. After taking the money for our room on a credit card we were shown to the room. The room was very tired with a wobbly bed broken mirror, dirty floors and cobwebs everywhere. We then looked in the bathroom to be greeted with a nasty smell coming from the toilet where it hadnt been cleaned and a lot of towels on the floor. When we got the receptionist to look at the bathroom he explained that they left the towels on the floor because if you used the tap on the wash basin the water would pour out over the edge onto the floor.
We decided very quickly that we did not want to stay here and so went back out to reception and asked for a refund as we would go somehere else. This is where things got even worse. The receptionist said he couldnt do a refund as he wasnt allowed and so he said he would get the manager to sort it when he came in the next day. We were not really satisfied with this so we got him to phone the manager. On talking to the manager he said he couldnt refund us for five days!! We pressed him on the matter and eventually he agreed to refund us by 10am the next day. On the next day we phoned the hotel back and found they had not done the refund and the manager was still saying we would have to wait. We were told he wasnt going to the hotel on that day and he was the only one who could refund a card as he had the supervisor card for the machine as he didnt trust his staff, well that comment says all you need to know about the hotel really! On pressing him and threatening legal action we finally got him to agree to us going back that morning and collecting the refund in cash. We have subsequently cancelled the credit card used for this transaction as we just didnt trust these people at all or the way they run the business.
Our advice is just don't even think about staying here.

Booked this hotel for 1 night stay with family. Arrived at hotel around 8 pm but had to wait for around 20 minutes for someone to meet us. Our room could only be described as dirty and grim. Curtains fell off the wall. No mattress protectors. Room looked like it had not been cleaned in years. No toilet roll or towels in the room had to request them. Could not shut the windows properly so had road noise all night. On a positive note reasonable Indian restaurant part of the hotel with friendly staff. Back to other not so positive. Breakfast consisted of a coffee machine and toaster. No breakfast really. Would never go back.

Our experience: We rang from the car hire office (at the Hilton hotel Stanstead) for our shuttle bus as arranged in advance to be told call a taxi it's the same price (it was 18 quid!) as it was 6 miles from the airport! It appeared to be a pub which has been taken over as an Indian restaurant, our room was up the stairs at the back of the building, you entered via two doors which banged loudly whenever closed....not easy access with our airport luggage! The room itself appeared freshly painted, the beds were comfortable enough, tv didn't work, no wifi as stated, only one mug to share for two guests....the biggest problem was the noise!!
We complaied about the crashing & banging from next door to be informed a crew of Polish ppl were gutting the room next to ours but they would be finished soon...this went on for a further two hours. The Indian man on reception told us he only had 4 hrs sleep in four days whilst he was taking his exams in India as way of explanation.....??? When that had finished washing up in the kitchen below our room began...it sounded as if metal trays were being hurled back & forth till 3 am....!! Also the rubbish being thrown out seemed to happen late at night with no regard for the paying customers in the rooms above....! The next morning when we tried to hand in our key before leaving the place was in darkness with no one to be found....You live & learn.....my advice pay the 50 quid extra & stay at the premier inn at Stanstead...at least you may sleep a bit!!

Room Tip: Don't book one here at all!!!!

what a total dump , run by incompetent and thoughtless indians ,out of several available rooms the *manager* decided to ' accomadate ' us in a room next door to one being noisily refurbished by a gang of polish workmen until 11.30 at night.!! kitchen staff under our room were cleaning and banging around and slamming doors until 1 am. i complained to the manager and had a lecture on how little sleep he needed and that he'd once gone for four days without sleep whilst in India.there was no offer to move us to the other end of the hotel.the manager and the polish gang discussed our complaint in the car park outside our room and clearly found the whole thing very amusing.do not stay here unless you are a masochist.this hole only survives because of undercutting the competition on price and everthing else.!!

Room Tip: you'd sleep better in your car.:O(

We stayed in the Skyline for one night before my sons wedding, we booked four rooms as it was very close to the wedding location, however i would say the decor was shabby but not chic, all rooms only had one small bath towel in, as standard however we did receive another upon request, TV'S in rooms one did not work another had only one channel, while we had hot water for an early shower the rest of my family had cold showers, had to complain about the loud boiler noise in the middle of the night it was so loud it vibrated our wall and the staff came and turned the boiler off ended up with about 3 hours sleep. Breakfast was a joke take a bag of crisps, the only good thing about this hotel was we had a good meal in the inhouse indian restuarant, staff were friendly but while in the bar did have an indian film on too loud for us to talk without raising our voices as the staff wanted to watch it, however staff were nice but did not clear the tables in the bar that night or by 11am when we left, thankfully it was only for one night.
