The Crown House

With family in North London, Hertfordshire and Norfolk this is a perfect location for get togethers and it never disappoints. In the 4 years we have been coming here the food is always first class, it's always a relaxed atmosphere and we never feel rushed. Best of all though are the staff. What a great team and brilliant customer service.

Stayed here for a weekend in October, as going to a wedding nearby.
At just under about £100 per night for a double room, we would not normally have considered this place but managed to get it on a Groupon deal, and for this it was amazing value for money.
Very easy to find, the hotel is less than 5 minutes from the M11, but in a quiet village. The venue is split across two buildings, the original building with restaurant and bar and rooms upstairs, and the updated stables. Plenty of parking available.
We were in Room 3, a nice double room with en-suite, which was spacious. The rooms are slightly dated, but everything works and it adds to the character anyway. Facilities included kettle (with coffee, teas and biscuits), TV, iron and ironing board, trouser press, and the bathroom had both shower and bath.

The bed and breakfast package was great, with plenty to choose from including standard cereals and juices, and then several hot options including usual cooked breakfast.

In the evening we tried the restaurant, and this too was very good. Guests are shown the lounge, where the menus are brought to you with your drinks, then your order is taken and you are called through when the food is ready. The food was lovely. The price for two courses is £18 pp.

In summary, this is an excellent place to stay if you want a hotel with character as opposed to a standard Travelodge type place, and with friendly staff and home-cooked food, there is very little against the place. However, at over £100 per night for a double room, not the cheapest, so we really did get a bargain. Definitely recommend for couples and small groups.

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights in September 2013. Hotel is a few minutes walk from the railway station in a quiet location on edge of the very attractive vilage of Great Chesterford. All the hotel staff that we encountered were very friendly and very helpful - regarding hotel service and local information. Food in the restaurant was excellent - reasonably traditional British food being very much to our taste. Room (No 9, ground floor in stable block just across entrance drive from main building) was fine, especially since it had a very large, comfortable bed and was quiet.

My girlfriend and I spent two nights here and the food was very good, especially the breakfast!
The staff really made you feel at home and were incredibly helpful.
The room we stayed in (room 3) was one of the better ones but was fairly basic with a nice little en-suite but everything worked as it should.
We would stay here again.
The staff also packaged an item we had left behind and printed labels off for the courier we had arranged.
A good stay all round really!!

Just had a fantastic two night stay. The hotel was fully booked on our first night but Dinner was still perfect, we were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The manager is a superb host full of information about the area and where to go ect, she suggested the park and ride with directions to Cambridge and we had a great day. I can honestly say Breakfast was the nicest we have had in a hotel and served in a charming conservatory made it even nicer. The room was clean and comfortable with all the little extras to make a comfortable stay. I would recommend this hotel and definately return again for another short break.
