Stayed here for 2 nights (Sat and Sun) to attend a family gathering in Chelmsford and visit some old friends but should have saved £200 and stayed elsewhere instead! We never received the email confirmation (much as the couple in front of us at reception) and we were certainly not advised when booking that a wedding was to be occurring on the same day! You cannot stay here - certainly not in the rooms overlooking the wedding- whilst it's on - the noise is unbearable! We heard all the amplified speeches through the afternoon and the noise from the music when we returned at 11pm was overpowering. The relentless bass and drums prohibited TV or reading and we had to wait until the noise died down well into the early hours before any sleep was possible. They are obviously geared up for weddings and should encourage all the wedding guests to stay by reducing the room rate to £50 because nobody else could stay here at this time.

After complaining we received a token £20 reduction (the room was £155!) but never again. Travelodge charged my sister £29 per night......

Thank you for your review following your recent stay with us, it is just a shame that you chose to only tell half the story.
I can only apologise that we failed to advise you of the function taking place on the Saturday night when you made your booking but you were advised on arrival, at which point you told the receptionist you were going out for the day and would not be back until late so it wouldn't be a problem and as such we would not need to move you to a room in a quieter area of the hotel.
Events on a Friday and Saturday require that the music be finished by midnight and this is earlier on all other days so would not have been going on well in to the early hours as you describe.
Whilst you rightly point out that your sister saved a great deal by staying at the Travelodge, you state that you paid £155 per night but this is in fact incorrect, your total cost was £240 including vat and full English breakfast for 2 people, staying in one of our Superior rooms, however she did not benefit from on site leisure facilities and a bedroom which has been part of a £1.5million refurbishment programme, which you obviously appreciated as you did give the room 5 out of 5 and it appears you had no problems on the second night of your stay.

I treated myself and husband a stay at Pontlands. We went to book a table for dinner, only to be told they were fully booked and we had no choice but to go out, due to a function and fully booked. Surely you should be able to cater for your guests be that staying the night or a function. Apart from that nice, clean rooms and reflections spa was nice to unwind in.

Thank you for your review following your recent stay with us.
Our confirmation letter does explain we don't automatically hold restaurant tables for residents, and although we are very busy, regardless of functions going on elsewhere in the hotel we always try our hardest to accommodate hotel guests, however I have looked into your comments and it seems that we could offer you a table just not at the exact time you wanted and you chose to go elsewhere.

Travelling on business I tend to have to endure rather than enjoy. Not this tiime, what a find. Beautiful building, huge clean bedroom and bathroom. Gym a bit disappointing, You need to service some of the equipment guys. Its all a bit squeeky and a bit old! Good indoor pool and outdoor pool. Nice outdoor area for drinks and good service from Daniel who poured me several lovely glasses of pink pino grigio. Used to mainly poor food in hotels so I was delighted to have the prawn curry which would have graced any good Indian restaurant. No microwave in the bag here. Holiday Inns everywhere please note. All fresh ingrediants. Saw two other girls in the bar eating the mushroom risotto. They were equally impressed with their meal. My compliments to the chef. The breakfast buffet was probably the best I've had in the UK. Something for everyone and very fresh. No skimping in this place. Young but very efficient staff. Great value and hope that I am back in Chelmsford soon!

We had our wedding reception at pontlands park hotel and it was just fabulous. From the moment our wedding drove down the pathway towards the hotel reception...to the moment we went to our room for the evening, the service was outstanding. Our guests were impressed by the beautiful grounds and stunning marquee that our reception was held in...I almost cried when I saw how beautiful everything looked once the decorations and flowers were finalised. I was so proud of the venue and great quality food. A real gem and great value for money. We were well looked after and the staff were attentive to the dietary needs of some of our guests. We also had irish dancers and a magician...which the hotel staff provided a room to change..brilliant.The only slight disappointment for me was that there were no compliments drinks or treats when we checked into our room...as the newlyweds who had the reception there...we were hoping for a bottle of bubbly. The breakfast was also a slight disappointment because the food choice was limited and there was a shortage of staff, not what we expected, considering the price for the room. However we are overall delighted we chose pontlands. A great wedding...loved it, thank you. Xx

Room tip: Rooms with bay window didn't have air conditioning but the suite was excellent

Thank you for your review following your recent wedding here at Pontlands Park.
We understand the importance of making sure that a wedding is just right, each and every one is different but we offer everyone the same high standards of food, service and value and our beautiful building and gardens make the perfect setting for such a special day.
The bedroom rates we offer for those people booking and attending a function are discounted and very competitive and in order to be able to offer these we are not able to give complimentary items, and this is not something we have ever claimed to offer.
I will look into the points you raised about breakfast as it is only through people bringing these issues to our attention that we can learn from them.
We hope to welcome you back again very soon.

We stayed here as a birthday treat and also as we are getting married here next year so wanted to try out the food and facilities we stayed in room 27 which was beautiful and very big. When arrived we were informed that there was a wedding but the music would stop by midnight which it did but unfortunately there was some other music that played all through the night which resulted in US nit getting any sleep at all so we left at 8am to go home to get some sleep! That was the only negative everything else was great especially the food and staff and am looking forward to going back next year

Firstly thank you for your positive comments, with regards to the issue of noise I understand from the manager that you spoke to the team on the day and the matter was investigated.
We look forward to welcoming you and your guests back for your wedding in 2014.
