Checked in with no problems. The receptionist was very efficient.
My room seemed to have been recently refurbished and so everything was exceptionally clean and tidy and it's not often you can say that about the bathrooms in 3 star hotels.
The bar service was poor. The barmaid couldn't get access to a bottle of white wine and when eventually she hunted one down it was warm. She asked if we wanted ice in it!!
The breakfast service and some of the food (I can still see those eggs that had been fried hours earlier ) was poor but we laughed rather than got angry.Fawlty Towers eat your heart out.
Incidentally the "Sleep Quality" is marked down because the fire alarm went off during the night.Apparently the cause was a guest smoking in their room. Not the hotels fault but the interruption wasn't welcome

Make sure you have an executive room! Hotel and rooms tired and I suspect this hotel gets rough clientele. The desk even told me they did and rooms get trashed by nightclub mobs at weekends. Hence they do not take cash. Breakfast ok that's it. Reception staff were superb.

We stayed here for one night when attending the Olympics in July, therefore very expensive. Room ok with good size beds for children. Otherwise quite a basic room. Hotel looks quite run down and more like an old fashioned holiday camp.
Wouldn't stay here again.

This is more like a Motel, almost Crossroads style! You book in a what you think is the Hotel and directed to a separate block.

I stayed in an Executive room, it was fine, mother bathroom didn't match, 20 years out of date.

One mention for the young lady in the bar who found us some biscuits and made us coffee at 11pm, definitely good service.

Room Tip: Fine for a night...

I had book a hotel with very short notice and found The Bell Hotel with a very good price and offered everything i was looking for. As i was taking my parents to Essex as my mum was having treatment from a specialist Doctor! I asked rooms on the ground floor for mobility reasons for all of us, asked for rooms together- all these were met when we checked in and as it turned out the doctor was just 10 mins away so it was excellent location. I found the reception staff very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was excellent as i paid extra to change from continental to full english and found the staff very helpful in the breakfast area. My parents enjoyed their stay and found the hotel very nice! Overall i was very pleased all as needs were catered for, definitely reccomend it to anyone. Ofcourse after booking i thought i would read some of the reviews and after reading them i was SO dreading checking in but it was nothing like as it said in some of the reviews! Its located in the right place as the town shops, restaurats were just 10 mins away! THANK YOU to all the staff you were very much appreciated!

Clean and tidy room with all that you would expect in terms of provisions - tea tray, shampoo etc.
I suppose what left a bad taste in our mouths excuse the pun was that they had raised the prices by £40 per night and removed breakfast from that due to the Olympics being in town!
We did stay here for one night before our event at the Olympics but the Hotel was not full by any stretch so they had not benefitted as they obviously thought and cheesed people off in the process.

Poor front of house staff on arrival with lack of attention to the guests being dealt with. She gave us the wrong checkin sheet Ashe was half attending to us and another man and seemed not to have a full grasp of the jobs in hand.

Bar man was rather more interested in chatting to the lady mentioned above than attending to the bar such that customers had to grand retrieve him from his "flirting" to come and serve drinks!

As I said very AVERAGE!

The hotel was booked for us and we expected more. They doubled their prices with the onset of the Olympics and it was then very poor value for money - we have stayed at Heathrow hotels for a third of the price which were better quality. We had expected the hotel to be full as others in the area were but there were only a few guests.
The hotel has a slightly unkept feeling about it - gardens of the hotel need attention as there are weeds in the car park and other public areas, there is a good deal of wear and tear on the hotel which needs tlc. Although the room was fine there were areas that needed a thorough clean and wipe down i.e. picture frames, water marks on tables etc but some of this had toy do with the worn feel of the place. We had to pay a deposit to be able to use the room phone - this gave the feel of a cheap hotel I would say. Weekend bar staff were pleasant and helpful and the Olympics were on in the bar.
The cooked breakfast was very large and the service at breakfast was decent. The continental breakfast buffet was a bit meagre but was sufficient. The beds were comfy and the bedding was cleans and fresh. New pillows are needed. The sofa bed was large for our children and comfy. The housekeeper moved us to another room quickly after she realized that 4 of us were sharing - she was helpful and quick to act. Overall the foreign staff were the most friendly and helpful during our stay. The hotel's location was good for Epping (but it is not in the town) and good for walking in Epping Forest - you will need a car to stay here. Hotel security was in question as it was possible to walk from the road to a bedroom door without any checks due to the open layout (motel-style) of the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask Reception to see your room before booking in to check it's what you want/need.
