“Holiday Park ???”
Reviewed September 25, 2011

This is the 3rd or 4th visit to Valley Farm and by far the worst. We usually book a standard caravan (bronze) but this time we decided to treat ourselves and upgraded to a Silver caravan. Big, big mistake. What we got was a smelly, dirty, badly maintained caravan with no net curtains at the windows. It was like staying in a goldfish bowl. We had to keep the curtains closed especially in the bedrooms. We reported our complaints to reception and after three days most things were put right (except net curtains). We only slept in the caravan as we are not used to smelly and dirty rooms. All in all a complete waste of money especially the upgrade fee. Have been offered no compensation except for a free upgrade on our next holiday (an offer which won't be taken up). We cannot comment on the entertainment, bar or restaurant as we spent all our time out of the camp.

We stopped on this park for 4 nights in September 2011 after reading some very good reviews and seeing their adverts in magazines but when we arrived there wasn't a bowling alley or any slides which was advertised! Our caravan was a bronze model purely because we wanted to take our small dog. The caravan looked tired with the windows all marked up with greese marks and the carpets stained. The curtains was in a poor state considering we wasn't allowed into our accommodation until after 4pm and the prievous guests leaving at 10am! There isn't much to do on site, the park has an indoor and outdoor pool, a laundrette, shop, restaurant bar and an arcade, that is it! The outdoor pool was closed even though the Weather was lovely all week the indoor pool is a very basic pool no slides or flumes etc and the sauna was broken and nobody seemed bothered about fixing it! The shop does stock most products and I must say the prices are pretty reasonable but it closes at 6pm. There is a Tesco Store around a 5 minute drive away and opens 24 hours! We had a meal in the restaurant one evening and even though it wasn't busy we waited a good 30 minutes for our food to arrive which was good quality, the prices are to be expected on these type of parks £2 for chips £3 garlic bread, fish and chips £11. Bar prices are very much the same as nightclub prices Fosters Lager £3.35, WKD £3.30. Everything is done and dusted by 11pm, Entertainment over and Bar closed! The Entertainment programme is again typical of a holiday park of this nature it's obvious that the staff here are on a basic wage and this does show with the service you get. One member of staff doing three or four peoples work! It's also quite obvious that the park operates on a very tight budget, our caravan door locking mechanism broke and the locksmith came out and simply swopped the locks over with another door and simply put a metal catch to secure the broken mechanism on the failed door, he told us he would return to fix the door later but never came! Caravans was being pulled off site left right and centre whilst we was there so I made enquries what was happening and was told that the owners couldn't afford the site fees and rates which are around £4000 a year including gas and electric. Over rated prices for a caravan park of this nature. We think site fees should be in the region of £1000 this is to take into account of the facilities on site which are poor. We wouldn't come again purely because of the distance we live away from the park and because there is nothing here! Clacton Town in a nutshell, is like Blackpool on the South Coast! Alot of tacky dirty shops selling rubbish with skyhigh prices! The pier is free to go on but if you want to ride the fair which again is on the very small side it'll cost you £14 for a wrist band! The whole place is closed at 6pm!

The park was very welcoming as were the reception staff. We ordered a meal in the bar, and although it was not busy, it took over 45 minutes to be delivered to our table, which we felt was excessive. However, the food was hot and very noce whn it did arrive. Park was claen and tidy, as were the amenities. Caravan had all accessories required for our stay and was only a short drive to the beach which was lovely. We would consider visiting again.

Our caravan was clean and tidy and clearly well looked after. The TV had a built-in DVD player so we were able to take a few films we could all sit down to watch. The mattress was a little on the soft side for me - I'm a big lump - but everyone else was snug as a bug in a rug and slept well.

The park itself is clean and well maintained with a good security presence and we were happy to let our children run about. Everyone was friendly and there were plenty of other children about so we had plenty of time to relax either in the caravan or next to the pool.

There are outdoor and indoor pools with an extra toddler pool. Both pools indoors are heated and all the pools are well supervised and I really felt my children would be looked after so was happy for them to be outside when I was inside and vice versa.

The camp is a short walk from Clacton and an ideal place to use as a base when exploring the local area.

I must highlight the entertainment. It's on a small-scale, low-budget and at times cheesy but it was faultless and always entertaining. The guest acts - anyone who saw the Streetball Xtreme display will known what I mean - were worth a good chunk of the rental fee on their own. Be ready for hefty bar prices!

There is a shop on site that could do with longer opening hours but there is a big Tesco just five minutes away. There is a launderette and restaurant with reasonable prices and the obligatory arcade. The mini-golf as a little tatty in places but great fun with no time limit (when we played). The playpark is suited to younger children but generally speaking there is always something going on and I just hope the resort can maintain this standard. We will definitely go back.

My only gripe is the state of the toilets in the entertainment pavilion. No locks on the cubicles and no visits or interest from the staff.

We enjoyed our trip thouroughly and would like to go back. Were very thankful to all the staff for their help and impressed with the caravan and activities offered in the resort.

Room Tip: a room near the pool and facilities

Valley Farm is excellent for families, especially young families. There is entertainment all day, and children can use the facilities and play around the park without parental supervision because of the high quality of the security.

Room Tip: Bronze standard caravans are fine in summer, and as comfortable as our own home.
