“Great venue for a good meal experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 29, 2014

A dark wet night was enlivened by a warm welcome great wine and good food. Service was reasonable and the menu varied . Even the chef took time to come and discuss his white sauce recipe and then gave me a copy of it. Would recommend this restaurant to any one . Hard to find but travel safely through the windy roads.

“Very good evening meal - service has improved”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2014

This restaurant is local to us and we have used it frequently over the years - we loved the renovation work but the service wasn't always as good as the promise. Very happy to report that we had a great meal Saturday evening - some excellent specials (the Duck was fantastic) and very pleasingly, fast, efficient and friendly service - well done. We (four of us) all had three courses, plus a bottle of Petit Chablis and Fleurie - £45 a head and I thought it was well worth it. Some of our other visits have left us underwhelmed but not this time.

“Excellent Lunch on Boxing Day”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2014

I visited The Dog & Gun for lunch on Boxing Day with family - a table of 7 and had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. The service was excellent, with the waiting staff attentive, swift and fully informed of the menu being offered for the day - nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant was extremely busy, but we weren't kept waiting in fact we were prompted to make our choices. The menu was seasonally traditional or not whichever you preferred. It was good value for money - I have visited the Dog & Gun on several occasons beforehand was slighlty apprenhesive as it was Boxing Day - but we were not disappointed - and we shall definitely be back soon, but only once the January detox has been endured.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2014

Recently went for evening meal with friends after hearing the pub had been refurbished. Looks amazing. Food excellent. Staff friendly and professional. Very spacious and tables not on top of each other. 2 course evening meal with coffee and drinks came to around £40 per head. Would definitely go back.

“Vegetarian disaster”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2014 via mobile

Oh I feel sorry for vegetarians. This was very disappointing. I eat meat and have eaten here before. Last night I decided to have a vegetarian meal.
The starter was halloumi which was good.
For the main course I chose the veggie 'burger'. A bad choice. It was a vegetable stack in a burger bun with chips and onion rings. The vegetable stack was a soggy mushroom,a piece of green pepper and 2 pieces of raw aubergine. All served at room temperature. I find raw aubergine unpalatable so sent it back to be cooked but it was returned after the rest of our party had finished eating in much the same state. I didn't want to make more of a fuss so i said nothing but I feel very sorry for anyone who is vegetarian. This dish did not require much cooking and really was just 4 bits of veg topped with melted mozzarella. Not what you expect from a restaurant which is not cheap.
The meat eaters were quite happy.
We had gone to the dog and gun because they had e mailed me saying that in January they were giving a free bottle of wine with every 2 main courses. When I booked the table I checked the offer was still applying but when we got there they seemed reluctant to give us the offer. They did in the end agree to do so.
Altogether a disappointing evening.
